Odessa Rooster Round-up

We had yet another fantastic trip out to Odessa for our annual get together. Late season pheasant hunting can be a curse or a blessing. Saturday we were blessed, and got our limit. We had to work very hard, and cover a lot of ground, but it worked out in the end. Today (Sunday) things were a lot tougher. Seems like everyone was out taking advantage of the nice weather, and the birds were very wary.

We hooked up with Suzuki and Crossin’ Eyes Saturday night and they joined us for dinner and drinks at the Karn residence. (Jen’s parent’s house.) We had a blast! Good seeing you guys!

I was able to get out on Sat. afternoon, hunting in a long john top in Dec.? It was a beautiful day to get out! I found the hunting to be good, dogs did a GREAT job and my eye was true. Heck even if I wouldn’t have seen a single bird, it was still a great day to be out!! Had my 2 birds in a couple hours. The forcast looks great to get out and do some more walking this week!

My trusty Rocky’s wore out finally this weekend after 10 years! The soles finally cracked. May they rest in peace! They sure served me well! I’ll bet we walked over 20 miles.

Wow..looks like a great hunt…couldnt ask for bettter weather…I was itchin to go but had to entertain the inlaws all weekend…..so no roosters but was able to sneek into the stand a couple times.

We had a great hunt and a even better time hanging out with the guys and of course my wife Jenn. We are so blessed with our group that it is truly the highlite of the fall to get out to Odessa 3 to 4 times a year.we had awesome dog work even in the 65 degree temps (IN DECEMBER!!!!) the dogs pounded thru some serious cattails and never let up. This weekends temps gave us a chance to really put the Top Dog energy sticks and the Canine Restart supliments to the test and let me tell you that I am a firm believer in both products. All in all we had an incredible weekend on tough late season ringnecks

Corey got one out of one particular patch that flew right toward me, gaining a lot of altitude really fast. The bird was 45 yards out when I touched the second round off, and it hovered like a kite! It landed in the middle of a frozen pond. The easiest retrieve any of the dogs made all weekend. It will go down as one of those shots you will remember for life.

Why were my ears burning on Sat night?? Of course someone, who I won’t mention Suzuki, called me in the dead of sleep. Can’t really recall what he said, other than Tuck was a very poor shot according to the group.
