We had a great time down in Iowa this weekend. Found most of our birds along rivers with corn picked next to them.
Weather was great. We heard scattered results from people some did very well other not so good..I think it helps to have great dogs. We are pretty fortunate to have 8 pretty good dogs to rotate in and out when the weather is hot like this so we could keep fresh dogs in the field.

We’ll be heading down next weekend to try it again. hopefully the rest of the corn will be out. making hunting even better.

Pic with the whole group, we usually split up into two groups of 4…………get together for some of the bigger fields.

I have a GSP. I love watching him slid in a solid point, knowing that a bird is close.
I also love watching a lab blow into a patch of grass, birds busting with the dog nipping at the tail feathers.

    Labs, goldens, springers and pointers?
    Wheres my chesepeke??
the only preferance is a flushing dog for me. I would rather have the pointer for grouse and woodcock.

I’ve had both Pointers and flushers……..I tell you what I don’t think there is anything better than watching a pointer quarter the field then locking up stiff as a board. Then walking in and flushing the bird. Good pointer has got to be the best if the birds are sitting tight. If not the old flusher is fun to watch bounding around trying to get them runners to fly. It’s a really tough question. I used to have both GSP and a chocolate. My chocolate figured out she could stay be my side until I’d yell whoa then she would look for the Pointer and run over there and flush the bird, and my pointer was fine with it. He’d just stand there and let her flush it. It was the best of both worlds. I just have labs now but would love to get another good pointer.

Sorry I just kind of grouped them in to the more common breeds.

I’d love to reveal my location but my buddies from Iowa wouldn’t invite me back…..so I must keep my location a secret. Do your scouting and you shouldn’t have a problem finding birds. OK West of Intersate 35 LOL
