I will be hunting with family in central IA, I talked with them and it sounds like the corn is more than 50% out as of earlier in the week…good luck

I am skipping it for the first time in 7 years.
I am doing a SW Mn tour instead this year.

I’m leaving for Grinnell in about an hour. Has anyone caught a forcast?

Weather.com is reporting highs from the mid 50’s to mid 60’s for Saturday and Sunday with a 10% chance of showers. Let’s hope they’re right.

Wouldn’t have minded a little cooler but not bad. Especially when considering last years opener which was hot.

I retired my pooch this year so no dog for the first time in 12 years. I am bumbed out! My gold mine has always been ditches just south of Minnesota off of 35. Find picked corn next to those ditches and its go time! Good luck gentlemen and remember to share photos and reports with those of us that cannot go …RR

If you hunt Lamberton make sure you stop by my Grandpa’s land that he donated to the DNR. It is under the name of Carl Pederson. There is a nice pond there that holds some honkers. I have not been there since he passed away but he used to strip it nice for bird hunters.

Let me know if you hunt this I would like to know how it looks. It should have some standing corn that might be picked by now. The building site next to the property used to be ours to but sold it after he passed.

Thanks in advance if you stop by.

Is it just me or do the birds seem to run alot more on windy days? We had trouble pinning down birds today, they seemed to be flushing wild on us. It seems like whenever it is windy they do that. I dont’t know maybe its just me but the dog and I had alot of trouble today with running birds. But all together it was a good time had alot of fun and can’t wait until tomorrow.

We also had a few wild birds but also some tight sitters that we may not have gotten up without the dogs. We’ll see what tomarrow brings.
