I just got back from 3 days in Windom with moderate success. I started out Mon. afternoon on 80 acres of CRP.Maggie flushed the first hen in about ten minutes.Shortly after that we bagged a young rooster that thought it could hide from Maggie under a rock pile. I walked the area for another hour and only put up 2 hens. At the last strech of the CRP The dog flushed another hen which I watched as she snapped around for another fast pass.Thats when the weeds erupted with about 20 birds! After an instant to regain my senses I noticed a bird that had a little bigger body than the rest and managed to tumble it.Maggie fetched back a nice mature bird with a 28″ tail and we we were done for the day.Tues. I sarted out in a small cattail slough where Maggie flushed 2 roosters together. I hit the closer one but it went down running and the dog had a good chase to get it.After that we walked fence rows and drainage ditchs till dark but only put up a couple of hens. Weds. we woke up to snow.drove around and looked at some public land the DNR pointed us to.After the snow/rain let up some I got out to try a public spot.there were some birds in it but it was obvious that they had an early education. We flushed a couple of hens but the roosters were running and flushing wild. Maggie lost her composure and started running wild as well. So since I was wet and tired I called the game at 3pm. There’s still a lot of corn up so there should be more birds in 2 weeks or so. I’ll go back and try again then.
