There are a couple of new products on the market that are going to do wonders for your hunting dogs this year. The first one is Top Dog Power Stix. This is a product that has been on the market for about 2 years. It is now the recomended dog supliment of Pheasants Forever, Ruffed Grouse Society and Quail unlimited. Based on how popular it has become, coupled with my own experiances will be a product that will find its way into my hunting vest every year from now on. Basically what it is is a energy stick for your dog. For all of us hard core hunters that want to get every ounce of hunt time possible this will help keep your dog rolling on those 2,3, even 4 day gruelling hunts. It is a 73% lean ground beef stick (major protien for muscle recovery) that also contains 6.5% dextrose (complex sugar for quick energy) and it contains an Electrolite Matrix that helps your dogs muscles rehydrate faster.
    visit their website @ http://www.topdogpowerstix.com
The second product is called K-9 restart. this is a water suppliment, kind of like Gator Aid for your dog. we all know that hydration is very important especially on warmer hunts. Everyone has heard of people losing thier dogs every year due to heat exaustion and dehydration. This is a beef flavored powder that you mix with your dogs water bottle and give to him out in the field. One thing to make sure of is that you dont keep the mixed water more than one day as it is kind of like an energy shake and will break down and go bad after a day. These are just a couple of products that I have found that definatly help my dog go stronger longer and that always puts more birds in my pouch. I’m sure you guys will find the same results and then I will get to see more upland pictures here on the site. and thats a win for all of us.
one more thing. GOOD LUCK HUNTING!!!! SHOOT STRAIGHT!!!
    thanks, Corey

Have you seen any adverse effects on digestion or stools when feeding these to dog? I’m interested in trying them as I usually give my dog some regular dog food middle of day when hunting. Is it available in any stores or must it be purchased online? I just placed an order online.

not at all. since it is a beef based product and most people feed a beef based food it has been fine for me. I really think you will like the product. I have also been talking with John Jung he is the owner of the company. He is going to register as a member to answer any questions that I cant.

1st of all……Welcome to one of the best sites on the net! Sounds like a great product! Anything to keep the dogs “energized” while hunting is a plus!

Are these available in stores yet???Cabelas by chance? How often or How many should be feed to the dog while in the field?? Is there a certain amount of time that should be implemented between feedings?

I order them direct or get them from the booth at the Game Fair. I do know that you can get them in Red Wing at Chuck and Don’s pet food supply. Their web site also lists Gander Mtn as a distributor.
    good luck hunting guys!!!

Chappy every time we take a break or get to the end of a field I will break off a chunk and give it to my dog. I will typically use 1 pack per day or so.

You can get them at a number of retailers in the twin cities area. All of the Chuck ad Don’s pet food outlets carry them as well as most of the Gander Mountains. The Vet recomeded usage is 1 once per 50 pounds of body weight for every hour of strenous activity. I give me dogs (Springers) one an hour before we go out, and then I gave them another after a couple of hours. Thy are 110 calories per ounce. Good Luck hunting.

FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION THAT!!!!! Zuki- we (the wife and I) were at the game fair talking to the guys at the Top Dog booth deciding on how many cases we were going to buy. so the wife (who is an avid hunter) asks how they taste. (Because our dog is practally a child in our family and cant eat ANYTHING that tastes bad) The guys say ahh they arn’t to bad. SOOOO the goofy wife picks one up and takes a bite and her exact words were “they kind of taste like a bland Slim Jim”

I have used the top dog and i can say it is a great product. They have been out a few seasons and I use them. They give the energy needed to keep a dog hunting hard. You can buy them online also Gander Mt. Sells them for 1.99 a pack of 2. 1 stick is to last 1 hour for 50 lbs of dog. The second product k9 refresh I am eager to use. I got a free sample at Game fair and I would like to give it a try.
