Grouse / Scouting trip

Myself and Josh Hooks hit the woods sunday morning, for a little woods refresher course for me and hopefully some grouse action. The woods was plenty thick yet and after about an hour and a half walk, with no grouse seen or flushed, we decided to head back to the truck. As were walking the road back to the truck, checking out deer tracks on the road, a bird flushes to our left. We trampled in about 80 yards, with no luck. Well, at least we found out, we probably need to get our woods legs ready for the opener. We were a little tired, which we attributed to, that we poured a 24 x 42 slab the day before, in the rain When we got back to the cabin, I listened to a grouse drumming about 25 yards from the shack It was fun anyways. Anybody else having any luck with the grouse yet ?

I kicked up my first bird of the year yesterday, walking my dog along a stream after picking her up from the kennel. Nice to see one after seeing none in western WI last year.

I watched them run around my bear bait all the time, its fun watching them when their not at full stride or flying, just walking around

They were doing a lot of shooting this weekend up near park rapids. There must be a lot of birds around because I don’t ever remember hearing that much shooting.

I’ll be chasing them in N MN this weekend where I spent opener. I hope we we get some decent weather. I’m taking my dog this time for her first shot at some real grouse action. Should be fun.
