How did others do? Rain and wind really made it hard for us to find them. I ended up getting 4.

I have never hunted Grouse and would like to, I know my pointer would love it. Where is some good public land to hunt ( if you don’t mind sharing).

Most of the state and national forests in northern MN hold decent populations of grouse. Grouse like edge cover, look for areas that have been cut a couple of years ago. Grouse like the transition from clear cut to old growth. If there is some wetland area nearby all the better.

Look for food sources, if a certain berry is in abundance at the time you are hunting, I would start there. I like to start in the lower areas and work my to higher ground.

Remember in grouse hunting success is dictated by the number of birds flushed, not hit, they are hard buggers to shoot. Welcome to the addiction known as grouse hunting.

The rain and wind had the grouse deep in cover. Trail birds were non-existent but the locals convinced me numbers were indeed up. We had to dive way in off the trail and bust brush. Swamp edges and even in the swamps.(cedar, spruce, blowdowns) We drove many many miles of gravel and 2-track and only saw 2 birds along road. We also pushed lots of typical cover without flushes. I sure hope the weather was the culprit because I was not impressed with the number of birds I saw and I was in the best area of the state in my opinion. I’m going back there in two weeks and hopefully we get nice weather.

Send me a PM and I will get you in some general areas to hunt. I hope you have a hand held GPS cause you will need it to find your truck when I am done with you

I’ve got the GPS and pen in hand. Now about those coordinates

Ron, I am on Tara’s computer right now. She says “hi to Katie and Jonathon.” Are you moved into the new house?
