I’m currently using a standard vest and where I hunt water is scarce and I carry 3 or 4 20oz bottles for me and the hounds. This put all the weight on the back of my neck and upper back and causes problems for me. Has anyone used a strap vest or backpack type like the mothers brand vest? They claim you can distribute the weight to your hips like good hiking back pack and they hold hydration bladders.

I have a hunting vest made by Quilomene. It has a water bladder that holds up to 5 quarts. I love it. It does allow you to carry more weight on your waist if you adjust it right.

The Quilomene vests aren’t cheap, but they are made very well. I have hunted four grouse seasons with mine, and no problems so far. They aren’t cheap though. You may be able to find something similar that costs a little less. Overall, I think these types of vests are a good investment for a dedicated upland hunter. Hope this helps.

This may sound crazy , but, might want to take a look at a paintball vest, they are made to hold pods about the size of a 20oz bottle and distribute the weight really well.
