My buddy and brother joined me to chase roosters Thursday and Friday. Thursday started cold, but turned out to be a nice day. We hunted public land around Marshall and found the birds very skittish. We saw 60+ birds all day, but we only had shots at 2 of them. They all kept getting up way out of range. On Friday we started on private ground 30 mins. East of Marshall. We walked about 4 miles of ditches before we saw our first bird. We flushed 10 hens and 2 roosters. My brother dumped them both. A little while later my buddy shot a very young rooster. All of these birds flushed out of knee high grass. We also flushed about 30 Partridge, but they all took us by suprise. We ended the day on some thick public ground. The grass was waist high. The dogs found another nice rooster and my brother got it. 4 rooster seen on Friday and 4 in the bag.

I never got a shot, but these two days have been the best of the season. My new pup finally figured it out. On Thursday she mostly walked with me and followed the other dogs. By Friday, she was out front hunting like a true champ. I am pretty pumped to get out again as soon as possible to watch her work.
