I got my yelow lab mix 3 years ago from the humane society. At the time they think she was 3 years old but were not sure. I have hunted with her since I got her. She has always had a great nose and was able to find birds but never retrieve, but this year she has definitely hit her prime. Saturday I was able to go to a preserve with my dad. On one of the first birds killed she went over and picked it up and started to bring it then dropped it awesome. She worked like a champ the rest of the day flushing, finding all the cripples etc. One very proud dad. The very last row we were working for the day she caught scent and took it to the end and lost the scent cicled back and the tail started going nuts the rooster got up and I shot a little early feathers went everywhere. We were all high fiving and laughing knowing the rooster was stone dead and in no hurry to go pick it up, My dog was not done we all looked up in time to see my lab with a rooster in her mouth plowing through the brush and dropping it at my feet that was absolutely the best I am so looking forward to many more days afield with her. that was on Saturday and out again today she worked three hens like a champ but no roosters to shoot. I can’t wipe the grin off my face

You can teach an old dog new tricks.
Great story! Thanks for sharing that one.
