Wisconsin Wasting Tax Dollars on Pheasants?

Lets get a discussion going. I read an article from the Iowa Fish and Game Magazine that said it was illegal to release pen raised pheasants in Iowa as they have found after years of study that it is a waste of money to raise and release pheasants into the wild as they will not survive. The answer is buying more acres and making more pheasant habitat. Minnesota has confirmed Iowa’s findings they say exactly the same thing. But here in Wisconsin we pen raise birds and release them as a matter of fact the legislature has passed a bill allowing 6 more years of spending money on pen raised birds.
I have no idea who gets to shoot these birds I only have heard you have to be there the day they release them. Based on the 1 bird limit on opening day I didn’t think it would be worth it to drive to one of the release areas. Maybe this forum will enlighten me to the advantages of Wisconsin pen raising pheasants. Pros and Cons?

I recently read some where that an area in Mn also releases birds and some have traveled something like 15+ miles and have lived 2-3 years. This was not done by the dnr. I need a day to find where I read this but will try to find the magazine.

Not much discussion. The state of Iowa says 50 years of research says it’s a waste of money. There are plenty of pen raised birds released for hunting in ND and SD but that’s why they do it to make money off hunters. I’m curious why it would be illegal to release pen raised birds in Iowa. Guess this doesn’t generate much interest so we’ll go back to fishing.

The main reason is disease and screwing up the pure wild strain.
