    PierBridge,

Not sure , but I think the lake next to Big Sandy just North of the Pier along Hwy 65 (Ratt Lake??). If you exit at the lake and take the dirt road North there, look at a map but I believe that is State Forest???? could be wrong . Lots of ridges and ravines in there. I have driven back there and have seen bear baits back there so be careful. I have seen grouse on the roads when I have driven there. I’m not a 100% sure, but I believe that is state land. Check a map. My Aitkin county plot map is up at the cabin.

There’s a ton up there. Find it. By that I mean you really can’t miss it. That’s one of my favorite areas when the numbers are up so I won’t give you any specifics.

There are thousands of acres of public hunting land in that area. When the grouse numbers are up, the area is typically loaded with birds. Even the most marginal cover holds birds when the numbers are up. Go hunt, but don’t be discouraged when the hunting is not real good.
