How to get a kid hooked on hunting…

Last Sunday I went to a game farm with some co-workers and my 5 year old son Jacob. One of the guys brought a cap-gun that looked just like a shotgun for Jake to carry. Needless to say he was pretty jacked up to be carrying a “gun” just like the grown-ups. It was raining steady and the birds didn’t want to fly or couldn’t fly as they were soaked. As it turned out one of the dogs caught a chukar. I really hate it when the dogs catch birds as it’s really a bad thing for a pointer, but decided to take full advantage of the situation. I took the bird and dispatched it unbeknownst to Jake. I then told Jake to get ready with his gun. I threw the bird in the air and he fired the cap-gun and lo and behold the bird came down. We all made a big deal of him “shooting” the bird. The kid was hooked right then and there. Jake was so proud he was practically walking on air. He stuck it out the for the whole hunt even though it was cold and rainy and he was soaked. Anyway, I’m quite the proud dad and I don’t think I’ll get to go to a game farm again without my new hunting buddy in tow. Here’s a pic of Jake with a couple of birds.

I had this problem once before. It was because I uploaded my pictures to a password protected area of the server. I could see it, but no one else could.

    Try this Clark…

crop and size your pic and save it in your computer..remember 450 pixils on it’s largest side.
once saved to your computer go in and post a message in the forum of your choice,
after your post is typed in leave the box checked that says “I want to preview my post and/or attach a file”
then there will be a box marked “browse” click this and it will take you to “your computer”
select the picture you want to post by clicking on it, this will put the picture in the browse box…
click continue and your all done….

Good for you! I know my favorite hunting partner is my dad, he did the same things your doing. I was in the woods way before I ever had a gun. And I will be doing the same!

    Great Pic!

I,ve been thinking about taking my 5 yr old grandson to a game farm but wasn,t sure if he could stick it out for the whole day.He has a .410 which I help him fire at paper and I gave him a duck call that his mother just loves. Start em early and start em right!

I know that one of the best things dad ever did for me when I was little was take me along! I’d never trade those hours in the Blind or walking in the grass for anything! Thinks Big B! Take your kids along, even if they’re not carrying a gun, the feeling of being part of the action is absolutely priceless for a young hunter!
