Thunder and lightning tonight here in Rochester along with a nearly constantly light rain. The deck has about 3/4 inch of solid ice on it right now and the grass and trees look to be about the same. Not good, not good at all for pheasants.

Ice is a huge mess when it comes to wildlife. We were going to hunt this morning but thought it would be best if we took the day off.The pheasant are having a bad enough time today without me shooting at them.Sure would be nice to see it get above freezing to melt this ice.

No chance of that up here for the next 4 – 5 days from what I can see. A day of 35 degrees would sure make clearing off my drive way a heck of a lot easier.

Just got back from a weekend in western Minn. Out there this weekend’s storm consisted of a few hours of freezing rain, turning to 3-4 inches of snow, and then the usual 30-40 mph winds. I drove around a little today in Lac Qui Parle and Chippewa counties and saw no birds. The roads were glare ice and there was no snow in the open fields. It had all blown into the drainage ditches and sloughs. I may be crying wolf here, but am fearful of our bird survival after this one.
