My 2004 hunting season offically came to an end today. Spent the day in the rain and wind on one last search for the willey rooster. And like was the case many times this year, it didn’t pan out.

I don’t know about you guys, but this years pheasant hunting for our group was absoulutly pathetic. I hunted less this year (only got out 8 different times), but the bird numbers just weren’t there to warrant anymore attempts than that.

My group as a whole (2-5 guys depending on the day) ended the year with a grand total of 3 roosters bagged…..and they were the only 3 that got up within gun range . We have access to some of the best sloughs around the area, there just weren’t any birds around. We had several days we didn’t even SEE any pheasants. That was unheard of over the last 5 or 6 years.

So we’re callin er quits a day early this year. I think I’ve finally ran out of motivation to get the gun back out for nothin .

But here’s hopin for a nice DRY spring and a better 2005 huntin season

Interesting. 4 of us hunted 3 weekends in west central Minn and bagged about 30 birds. This includes a cold and windy weekend in Dec with wily birds. I will have to say that the number of young birds were down significantly so we will have to depend on the old roosters to make it through another winter for breeding next year. Could be tough if there is a hard winter or another cold, wet spring.

I’m with Putz, The land where I hunt in MN seemed to have about 2 times as many birds as last year. There would be days I would see 30-50 birds in a day! I hunt about 2 hours west of you Jake. I’m thinking of heading down there at the end of this Month with a barrel ful of corn for the birds and deer. Does any one have any tips on how to or where to disperse this corn??? Mainly for the birds.
