Well I finally got a chance to get down there and had a very interesting trip. I will be trying a new area cause the birds were not where I expected them to be. Ended up with one and missed one for three guys.
The exciting part was seeing the turkeys. We ran into 10-12 of them. My friends dog flushed two at the end of a push and a couple flushed a ways out. We then changed fields My dog got birdy and the bird didnt get to flush cause the dog caught him (a very nice turkey) . Can you actually belive the dog got it, the whole thing lasted about 45 sec. until my coaxing and the birds power it fially got away. It held that tight. then 20yds. later same thing except this time he flushed before she could get on top of him. She did manage a few tail feathers before i could get to the whisle. Along the walk back the 3 of us were walking next to each other next to some patches of taller grass when my dog gets a little birdy not much just a little, Then she goes on point which she has been doing latley a chesepeke pointing dont ask me im stumped. I said theres one telling my friends and then telling the dog tho get em, 4ft away a turkey flushes. We couldnt even see it in the thick grass 4 feet away. How can these big birds hide so well? Any way that was my trip I am glad all turkeys got away but it would have been nice for thanks giving dinner . thats all I have hoping to get down there to a differnt area in a week or so happy hunting.
