18 bird limit at 3:00 this year. It was tough going with the high wind and cool temps. Calmer weather today, hopefully another 18.

    Bigfife,
    Thats GREAT!
We had 5 people in our group and were done by 5 with limits for all. Could of been done earlier but we wanted to watch a football game instead we watched a kicking. Nice job gophers!

Hey steve not to rub it in but I had my two birds by 3 yesterday and was duck hunting again int he evening. I had to spot them and work my way to them only reason I was able to shoot both was they never heard me coming with the wind. Today the farmers were going wide open with corn so should be better by next week. We got 2 out of the waterway we walked yesterday this morning.

Went 7 birds for 8 guys today. Perfect weather today, but too many aches and pains. We only hunted for about 4 hours. Found a couple cripples that we lost yesterday.
Ron, I am glad I forgot about the game. I would have been inside wasting, I mean watching, the game too. How did your pup do?

Don’t feel bad Steve, we had a rough opener also .

We hunted 9-4 on saturday and 9-5 on sunday (didn’t even stop for lunch) and only managed 2 roosters . Heck, we only flushed 4 birds (1 rooster) Saturday and 6 birds (2 roosters) on Sunday. Compared to last years opener when we flushed over 20 birds both days.

I guess the wet spring really did em in more than we thought

Lots of time to chase these bird after the corn comes out. We found them in the beans not so much in the corn.
Bigfife- 9:02 we go out behind the house and pup goes on point-flush,cackle, BOOM, then he runs into the beans to get it and stops two feet short of the bird and just stares at it. Now I am thinking that he has never failed to retrieve before BUT as I walk to him, right under his nose another rooster jumps up to get alittle 4 or 6 shot. It is 9:08. It sure was nice to see that after the shooting the pup went to get both birds and brought them to my hand.
    I AM SURE SORE.

The 5 of us didn’t get our 10th bird until 6:45 pm (when is sunset?) on Sat. High winds and rusty shooters made it an adventure all day. 24 degrees on Sun morn and didn’t bring the long johns. BRRR! 7 more birds by 2:00 and quit. Will have to say that we did not see as many birds as last year with the same amount of corn standing. Hopefully they just didn’t come out because of the weather.

As a side note, one of our guys has a 1 1/2 year old Lab that looks pretty promising. The best part is that if he is posting and shoots a bird, she will go get it. If he shoots and misses, she gives him the look then goes and gets one of his empty shells. Hilarious. She did that last week during duck hunting also.
