Anyone heading out to SD for the Pheasant Opener? If so, where are you hunting. We hunt private land West of Chamberlain, around Kimball & Platte. Usually the hunting is very good and the group limits out in a couple hours.

This spring when I was out in Pierre for the RCL tournament I was suprised at the numbers of birds in that area. From Pierre to Redfield to Aberdeen seemed to be loaded with birds. Anyone else?

On my way to the Huron area on Friday night. I grew up there and my family owns some fantastic habitat that I’ve hunted for 25 years (ever since I could carry a BB gun). We used to run a pay to hunt and guide service for some years, but that gets old in a hurry. The hunting is so good we have never bought birds EVER and we’ll have an 18 man limit on Sat and Sun by 3pm. I can’t remember the last time we killed less than 50 birds a day on opening weekend. Its really great this year because my 5 year old gets to go with and be part of the “guy” crowd this year instead of staying back at the house with the womenfolk! Hope everyone has great luck!!

There are two less pheasants for you guys to kill this year. My grill made sure of that on my way to Wyoming. Took out the tranny cooler and the whole grille and part of the light assemply. 75mph + 2 pheasants = $$$$$$$$ Stupid birds!!!!

Last fall my Explorer came in contact with an unlucky hen south and west of Desmet,SD. Took the grill, headlight mounting panel, both pieces of the drivers side headlamp and marker assembly and curled the hood under then bounced into the power mirror that happened to also be heated. Boy did she taste good!!

Two years ago we were driving to where we were going to hunt and the vehicle that was in front of me hit a rooster, it bounced off the top of the windshield and flew straight back and just about landed in the bed of my pickup. I knew that was a good sign for opener, and it sure was!

That is the extact same thing we were wondering as we were driving 70 MPH down the road. It usually takes a little over an hour to get our 15-20 man limit in SD. I heard Tony Dean is hunting with our group again this year. That is always entertaining.

The SD opener was very good. Lots of corn in the fields which made for a little more walking. But, limits were easily had each day. I will put up a report with pictures later today.
