Fishing slowed a bit this week. Very cold temperatures created better Bay de Noc ice conditions but kept some anglers huddled around the home fire’s. Ice conditions vary 14″ to 32″. From the Terrace south to Stonington 18″ to less than 6″ out in the Escanaba channel. Freighters have been moving through the channel this past week creating very dangerous conditions. Walleye bite still best 4pm to dark with best catches being reported out from the Terrace jigging in 30′ to 45′. Also the head of the Bay in shallow, 6′ to 11′ most using tip-ups with 5″ to 6″ minnows. Breezy point catches have been good too but dangerous ice surrounds this area. EXTREME CAUTION MUST BE USED! Most fishing right on the break jigging swedish pimples and rapalas. Northen have gone into there slow mode, not much to report.
Perch also not quite as active but anglers moving to new ice doing well jigging minnows. Whitefish still active out from the Terrace, most jigging 40′ to 45′ using minnows or single eggs. Anglers overall reporting good numbers of walleye throughout the Bay. The surge north seems to be on track, should be a great February! Good luck!
