Looking at ditching the stock wheels and tires on the ram 2500 and adding some 35s on 18 inch wheels. Any one run the nitto grapplers or Mickey Thompsons and have any real experience with either ? She needs some bigger and better meats on her. I do as much off the beaten path as I do pulling a boat, skid loader, dump trailer. If you have better options in a 35 x 18 I’ll listen

Have not run either but would pick BFG KO2 or Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac if available in your size. I looked up a 305/70R18 and that is 34.8″ rolling diameter and the BFG is available but not in stock from the warehouse I checked. If you gave me the size your looking at other than a 35 inch I am happy to see what is out there and share what I think.
August 25, 2023 at 9:08 am #2220784I’ll vouch for Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I ran them on my last truck. Then tried Toyo AT3s. Those sucked, so on my new truck I went back to the Wrangler Duratracs.

Size will be determined later when I meet with the guys at wheel pros. They are meeting me at the woman work to figure out the details on wheels. And tires will come through my guy at norms. I do not want duratracs. My Falkens out performed them on my half ton.
August 25, 2023 at 9:16 am #2220787So the Duratrac is not available in either the size I mentioned above or in the 35×12.50×18 So my vote would be for the BFG KO2.
RJ I have had people like those Toyo’s. Certainly not as much traction as a Duratrac so maybe going from them to the AT3 was the issue.

Thanks John I will look in to the ko2s. I’m trying to pick a wheel to keep inside my fenders. I do not want offsets. I made that mistake last time

Must be a super soft compound or something. A buddy has a new Ram with like 14000 miles on it and the front tires are already shot. Could be all the dang roundabouts but dang that is terrible.

They are very soft tread. I’ve noticed that as well
August 25, 2023 at 9:29 am #2220793I ran some 33″ Dick Cepeks a few years back on my 1500 RAM, and I really liked them. At the time, MT was just purchasing DC Tires. I believe the tires I ran are now MT Baja Boss ATs. They weren’t so aggressive to be annoying while on the highway, but performed very well off road.
I didn’t keep the RAM very long as it was likely the worst truck I’ve ever owned. And got back into GM, and ran Falken Wild Peaks on my 1500 Sierra. I gotta say I liked those more than the Dick Cepek tires.
But I wouldn’t hesitate to run the MTs again.
MX1825Posts: 3319August 25, 2023 at 9:37 am #2220796BC with 35’s will you need a lift kit?
No, but the front already has a 2.5 full gas billstein lift and stabilizer. I did that right when I bought the truck. The way it sits now I can Tuck 37s under it on 17 inch wheels but I don’t need to go that big. So my thought was 35s on 18s
August 25, 2023 at 9:37 am #2220797I have a buddy who had the Mickeys and he was NOT a fan of their performance in the winter. I think he swapped them out with something like only 10k miles on them only because he was ready for something new.

Perfect, that’s the feed back I was looking for. I’m not married to a brand just was looking quick this morning. I’d like to order something today.
August 25, 2023 at 9:41 am #2220800Soft = quiet. and i like that
Question
If you install 35’s does anything need to be tweaked?
ie speedometer, anti lock…August 25, 2023 at 9:43 am #2220801Soft = quiet. and i like that

ie speedometer, anti lock…Everything does. But that’s easy.

The old dick cepeks, we used to call them slick defects. I’ve torn many of those off back when I had mud trucks. At one point we figured them to be the most unreliable tire known to man. I wasn’t aware they were bought by Mt
August 25, 2023 at 9:58 am #2220806Just my opinon but you said you tow with your truck. Big tires look nice and are great for offroad but suck for towing. I tow with a diesel and the last thing you want is tall tires. The sway can get bad on big trailers with wind.

I’ve been doing this along time. That’s why I’m not going 37s 35s will perform great and look great
StanleyPosts: 1058August 25, 2023 at 10:12 am #2220812I run duratracs but I have been hearing good things about the new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s. If you liked the wildpeaks in the past might want to stick with those. I like trying new tires also but if you find something that works sometimes it’s just nice to stick with them.
August 25, 2023 at 10:15 am #2220813Don’t think you’d be disappointed with the KO2’s. 45k (2 years) on my current set and are wearing very well. Great traction in snow. Don’t spend much time in the mud. And they are relatively quiet. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
August 25, 2023 at 10:28 am #2220821That truck will look slick with 35s on it!
I agree. My tuner showed up today and full exhaust build goes next week. Should be all done with it then and it’ll look nice. Tuner, exhaust, intake and throttle body will push her to be pretty snappy as well

So larger exhaust and more airflow but you’re sticking with the factory IC? Or have you already changed that? Does your tuner display EGT?
Maybe I had an off set, but I liked how the Dick Cepeks ran, especially for being as wide as they were. They didn’t seem to track as bad as some others. I didn’t put a whole lot of miles on them, 4-5K, but I liked them.
I quit running slick defects 10 plus years ago. For all I know they have made a ton of change. My tuner is just to delete cylinder deactivation, it has live tuning capabilities but I am not interested in much besides deleting my cylinder drop down. I’m not trying to build huge horses with this rig otherwise I would have went diesel. Exhaust, throttle body and intake is easy cheap work that all gives enough performance to make me happy. Haven’t looked in to ignition work and don’t need to nor do I need Exhaust gas temp
When I saw the truck, I thought you had a Cummins not a 6.4L. I guess I just assumed heavy duty, must be a diesel.
Makes sense now!
August 25, 2023 at 11:20 am #2220836On my second set of BFG All Terrain KO2. I like them.
On a 2500 or 3500 ?
I figured that after thinking about your comment. Mines the hemi not the Cummins.
