Tough to beat the Walker/Park Rapids area in my opinion. Lots for everyone in the family to do. And you have a ton of lakes from Leech to smaller bodies depending on the weather and personal preference.

X2! Itasca State Park, Crow Wing chain, the list goes on and on. Beautiful area.

Father Hennepin State Park, Isle, Mn , Lake Mille Lacs
panfish, perch, northerns right there in the bay off the launch.
Marker hiking trails and an early morning or evening chance to see ALBINO DEER like nowhere else in the state. Go around the launch point and small mouth off the rocks. Drift out deeper, more smallies and wally’s too. Check you lake map, and head up to the ‘grave yard’ rock pile, more wally’s and smallies. Over by the ‘west campground’ launch, follow the ‘long-point’ playing the wind and catch everything the lake has to offer (at times) right along there….decent shower facilities, and fish cleaning house. Rustic and elec hook-ups…

A unique experience is to camp on an island on Lake Vermilion. There are a handful of sites and its free!

The fishing is usually really good too.

We”ve been taking the family to Becker’s Resort on Winnie. My boys love it. on the Miss River protected from the main lake.

My boys just like camping stuff though. We been taking them to Morts on Red Lake around Memorial since they were born (5 and 8 yo’s). When I asked my 8 year if we should go to Disney or go the Red Lake again, he picked Red Lake. no lie, I about fell over! Just likes camp fires, the camper, and exploring.

That’s awesome! My kids just light up when I say camper. Even setting it up in the driveway they love it.
