    Hi all,

I’m taking my son to the UP this summer and was wondering if there are any smaller lakes that have a good eater walleye and smallmouth population. I can only find anything about Gogebic, Portage, and Little Bay de Noc. Any help would be appreciated. We can find fish if we have an area or lake that has a good population.

Feel free to message me as well.

    Thanks!

In Wi fishing regs they have – Special Regulations – Listed by County. It has some lakes listed with a star – “Identifies quality fishing opportunity”. These lakes have a bass 18″ minimum with 1 or 0 keep. DNR Fisheries Biologist told my these lakes are suitable to grow big bass (quality feed ie Cisco’s).

I looked at MI regs and they have – Exceptions to General Regulations by County. Look for similar rules for a lake with bigger fish. I found this example:

    “Iron:
See also Michigan-Wisconsin Boundary Waters Regulations (see pp. 24-25). L. Ottawa no possession of bass. Fire and Indian Lks. bass possession limit
is 1 fish and minimum size limit is 18”.

Look at counties in the area you will be. I would then call the local MDNR Fisheries Biologist and see what they can tell you.
