    Great thread:
Walleye fishing IS boring and they offer a lame fight
I do LIOKE Bass fishing- are fun to catch and keep me moving in terms of casting, reeling etc
Carp DO fight hard ( especially the 2 lbers – a blast to catch)
ALL fish suck to eat – I catch and release everything ( Grew up on beef and potatoes 7 days a week – just don’t like fish)
LOVE my hub but yes, kinda keeps you anchored in one spot.
ONLY reason I watch fishing shows is to see WHAT they are using and WHEN and HOW, the rest is just BS – many times they’ve been fishing for a week to string together 20 minutes of useable footage – and YES – hate the product HARD SELL
I fish 80+% of the time alone – it is WAAAAAYYYYY more about being outside, enjoying nature, my time on the planet – if I catch something, ANYTHING, that is a bonus
Oh yeah, common courtesy on the lakes seems to elude many people – either be responsible and follow the golden rule or stay the hell home ( whether at the landing, on the water or fishing around docks where little kids are trying to fish)

    I’ll add another:

Any fishing show using a local guide to put them on the bite is not impressive. Give me a show where you’re figuring out the bite 100% on your own, just like the average joe has to do.

Sounds like a lot of you guys should stop fishing for Walleye’s and leave them for the rest of us, since there so gross. shock

The main reason that they are so popular for table fare is that they yield a lot of meat and very few bones. Pike are definitely better table fare in my opinion the the mount of wasted meat turns me off.

Agree I wish I could clean pike better, then I wouldn’t mind catching the snot rockets all the time. When I have had them they taste as good or maybe better than walleye.

I think most of these are actually popular opinions, but maybe not perceived that way.

-DNR Hunting and fishing regulations should be a fraction of as long as they are.

-Most hunting seasons should be longer, because fall is just too short.

-For every suit or office worker the DNR has, they should have at least one field officer.

-No self respecting fisherman should buy a fish they can catch locally.

-Northern are delicious and you should keep as many as possible, especially the little ones.

-Most Rapala products are grossly overpriced, and you can get the off brand similar product for much less.

-Jig and a minnow/worm/waxie still catches more fish than anything else.

-Vexilars are still awesome tech, and nearly indestructible, you can get something else that does more, but nothing else that does the same as reliably.

-An old 16′ fishing boat can do you just as well as a new fancy one.

-Walleye are the ultimate game fish, challenging to catch, delicious table fare, and abundant in opportunity.

-Anything advertised as Scent Free, is just marketing and does nothing for you.

-If you have food plots, trail cameras, and name your deer, you are farming, not hunting.

-Dutch doesn’t actually own a fishing rod. jester
    -South-shore of LOTW is overrated.
-Bass are over populating some lakes
-Metro lakes have no fish or are all small
-There are to many fisherman especially ice fisherman
    -Camping in a tent
-Most fisherman are one uppers and get jealous of others catches
-Yamaha motors never have issues or blow up
-A few individual posters have made this site less attractive for many outdoorsman.
-People who say walleyes don’t fight don’t catch many sizable walleyes.

Fishing tournaments that weigh fish on shore or off site should be discontinued. With the tech we have now, weigh, photo, release. No reason to have them in a live well for hours, then in a bag, then try to release.

    -Camping in a tent

Camping only occurs in a tent (or outside). A home on wheels isn’t camping.

Hard to argue about the palatability of pike, although a half frozen pike is much more friendly to clean when the slime is frozen. I love solving the puzzle when it comes to finding walleyes. A very mild flavored fish that bland palate Scandinavians love. But lets be real, the king of freshwater fish is the burbot.

I won’t argue about which fish is the most fun to catch. But when was the last time you saw bass on a menu in a restaurant?

-Salting roads across the state is one of the biggest day-to-day wastes we accept in Minnesota. It’s hard on vehicles and infrastructure, is expensive, and ruins watersheds. I use ash in my driveways or on hills and it performs better without hurting lawns, watersheds, and is completely free.

-Fishing licenses could double in costs and I would buy one with a smile if I knew 100% of the increase went into stocking efforts and CO’s enforcing laws.

-Crappies are the worst eating fish that people still target to eat.

    -iFish Pros are overrated.

-I would support a Catch & Release only regulation from March 1 – May 1 on the Mississippi River border waters. They are my home waters and I do harvest fish occasionally, but the number of huge females taken out of the system during this time is crazy.

-If I ever won a wheelhouse or was given one, I’d sell it for cash in a heartbeat. They are not appealing to me and never will be.

Hunting deer should be limited to bow or crossbow only. There I said it.

There should be a continuous open hunting season on Sandhill Cranes. They can make for excellent long range targets, and are great table fare! Taste like Bald Eagle.

Haha. Some of these are pretty good.

Interesting is all the commentary on northern pike. With a daily bag limit of 10 in most of the state, and apparently very popular as table fare here, you’d think we would be making a dent in their over-abundant population.

I’d more than be willing to pay more for an annual residential angling license if it helped add or increase enforcement officers. I buy a conservation license for 13 bucks every year and it’s almost like stealing. The amount of fishing I do for only 13 bucks is ridiculous.

    Here’s my addition.

    Pheasant season starts too early.

The majority of people on this site will move by other boats or houses and fish, and have no idea of what they are doing.

Crossbows should be called Arrow Rifles because that’s what they are.

Arrow Rifles should not be allowed in the archery seasons because they’re not archery equipment.

The sports of hunting and fishing is at carrying capacity and doesn’t need the introduction of new members.

Farmers should not be eligible for subsidies if 20% of their land is not native prairie/forest.

Fishing shows, high or low budget, TV or YouTube, are better to watch than the garbage on network tv.
People who dislike walleye fishing are probably impatient and just plain bad at it.
Bleeding fish is waste of time. Washing well with water achieves the same outcome.
Buddy heaters are junk made for safety to protect dumb people, not for reliability.
Wheel houses have turned many resort owners into money hungry monsters.
Modern technology ie Livescope etc. are going to hurt our fisheries.

Pound for pound white bass may be the hardest fighting fish in our area, and excellent table fare.

Decrease the panfish limits on Pool 9 & 10 on the Mississippi River to match the pools further north. 15 bluegills, 15 crappie and 15 perch.
