underground invisible dog fence

The house I’m moving to next month has an existing underground invisible electric fence for a dog around the property. I asked the current owner when I saw him this past week about it and he said he never even used it while he has lived there, even though he has a dog. Is there a way to figure this out? If the wires are already there, can I just buy a collar for my dog and it will work? Maybe someone that has an existing underground invisible fence can help me out here. I’d like to take advantage of this if I’m able to.

    Thanks

I had the same situation when we moved a few years ago. I called the invisible fence nearest office and they sent out a service rep. He checked to make sure the fence was working, furnished the collar, put out the flags around the lot and went over dog training. I think it cost us around $200 to get everything working. Keeps the pup out of the street and off the neighbors yard.

i dont have one but had a friend that put one in. he had to beagles and once they figured out it was a quick short zap that fence didnt stop them. this isnt any knock on the fence, just wanted to let you know it does happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^ Same thing with my buddys dog. Run fast-little shock..

He went to the type that once the dog went out of range it got a shock until back in. I would spend your money that way. AND never a wire issue.

Invisible fence folks recommended that for the first two weeks have the collar set at a lower intensity level. If your dog isn’t stopped by the little zap they can increase the ZAP and that should resolve the problem.

Oh yes I’ve heard of this happening. The property is already wired for it so I figured I might as well at least try to make it work.
