For me, slip bobber rigs would be underrated, for many years have looked at it as an ‘i give up’ tactic, probably caught as many using that method this year as I have any other. Definitely not going to be a last resort tactic for me anymore.

Over rated, expensive sunglasses, bearing buddies and beer that I can see through.

I have to disagree with you wave mrgreen

Expensive sun glasses like Costas are great. I’ve had a pair going on 5(?) years (Brine model). They’re super comfortable, have glass lenses without a single scratch, and don’t “squeak” like cheap glasses.

Bearing buddies keep positive pressure in your hubs and give you a visual they have grease.

Finally, see through beer doesn’t taste like a fricken pine tree. It’s also not $12 for a six pack toast

Underrated, wifes home made rod socks. They work fantastic, and have really cleaned up the tangles, and nicked lines, on my great Lakes trolling rods, in the rod box. I carry about a dozen in my rod box, and now with these on, I could easily put another six or more in there. No more tangles, made to length, and just a joy to use. Best of all, about 25 cents each to make, when you figure my wife donates her time, as long as I take her fishing. Tried the commercial netting type ones, and they didn’t work as well, fixed length for the most part, and on spinning rods, the large guides would pop through at times, and they were about $8 apeace.

It’s not so much the bearing buddies I have issue with, it’s the false semse of security and lack of preventative maintenance that often follows them.

As for the beer, I enjoy dark/heavy beers not being most people’s thing, more of it for me. Kind of like being left handed, no one takes my fishing poles.

Over Rated: expensive sunglasses (I’ve had the same 20$ pair for 4 years… If they break, I don’t care, if they get stolen or lost, I don’t care. They were 19.99 at fleet Farm, and they’re polarized so just as good as your 300$ oakleys), Lowrance and Garmins new trolling motor (for 3k, really?)

Under Rated: women who fish, side imaging, Tiller BOATS, shallow water walleye,

To all who say jiggin raps are over rated, you must not be using them right. They’re definately over priced, but not over rated. They work, caught 30 walleye on them this weekend. Also lost 50$ worth of them to devils lake…

I’m in the mood to step on toes devil

    OVERRATED-

Thermocells: It’s never calm enough during good fishing for them to work worth a damn. They’re solely a camp fire or sitting on a deck item for me.

Yeti Products: They perform on-par with other brands’ products but cost far more.

Mille Lacs: It’s a great place with fish to be had, but the scenery has nothing on places like Vermillion. I also prefer to fish moving water in rivers.

Engel Bait Coolers and other $$$ bait totes: An old hard sided lunch box or even a cheap bait bucket set inside a 5 gallon pail is nearly spill proof and with an aerator and bit of ice keep bait alive all day long for a fraction of the cost. I’d maybe entertain them for someone fishing 8+” suckers or other large expensive bait. When I see a guy with $2.98 worth of crappie minnows or fatheads in one I laugh.

Cabela’s: This one speaks for itself

    UNDERRATED-

River Fishing: There’s nothing better than fishing for any species on moving water. As soon as you think you have something figured out, another variable changes or a seasonal flood alters the landscape.

Ugly Sticks: Cheap, durable, and surprisingly sensitive

Small Local Bait Shops: Finding a place that shares just a bit of relative info and will go out of their way to treat you right is worth far more than any bargain bait or lures from a box store.

The Knowledge of IDO’ers: This speaks for itself. There are so many great angling and outdoor minds that contribute to this site. I cannot think of any place even worth mentioning in comparison.

Perch: Perch from cold water is better than walleye. Cleaning x10 nice perch is simple and makes a great meal.

Bobber Fishing: A slip bobber is so often overlooked for all species and locations. Two weeks ago we absolutely smashed eater walleye letting slip bobber rigs drift ~20 yards down a 16’ sand flat in current on Pool 4. Set them a foot to 18” off the bottom and the multi species action is non-stop at times.

Chums or other sunglasses style straps: Expensive sunglasses have been worth every cent, and the straps to ensure they stay with me are a necessity. I’ve made it a long time since having to buy a pair.

Amen. Mrs. Bucky is great company in a boat and loves to fish. Far too many of my friends and family members’ wives or girlfriends don’t want anything to do with fishing. Sharing a hobby with your significant other is awesome

Wow, I don’t really fit here.

    Overrated:
UglyStick (partially based on this thread) Maybe they have changed. I haven’t had one in 15 years. At that time it was horrible. I lost so many fish from poor hooksets from fishing with that noodle of a rod.
Bobber fishing. Fishing is an action verb. I rarely bobber fish and am never physically anchored while fishing.
Yellow see through beer. No thanks. When I want water I’ll drink water not imitation water.
    Gin.
Shanty beers, or fruit infused beers. Just why?
Frabil Trophy Haul nets. Anyone what to buy one? Heavy and awkward.

    Underrated:
Hazy IPA’s. I’m on a citrus hop adventure. It’s not the pine cascade hops for those looking for something different.
Barrel aged anything. Sign me up. Especially maple syrup. Even better, beer aged in a barrel that aged whiskey and maple syrup. Yeah, it scared me too.
A display on a trolling motor remote. Can’t fish without it.

•fluorocarbon line (has its applications, but gets overused/marketed IMO)
•Lots of “eater” walleyes. (After you catch enough to eat, go find either bigger walleyes or another game fish that fights better)

    Underrated:
•White Bass – great fighters and get quite big in many waters. Can be good table fare if prepared right
•PBJ sandwiches while fishing. Easy to make, tote, and enough protein to fish long days w/o getting overly hungry.

The whopper plopper is over rated. It costs a lot and it doesn’t catch many fish for me. I do think that its a well-made lure and its very durable, but it just doesn’t catch many fish.

Very true. These things suck. They might be better on lakes with barely any weeds or algae, but they’re always getting fouled with floated bits of grass for me.

Underrated is Yo Zuri Hyrid fishing line in 6-12# test. The stuff is thicker and much tougher than the test rating suggests. The 6 fishes like 10 and the 12 fishes like 17. Another two are Bow To Stern boat polish and KVD Line and Lure conditioner, both made by the same company.
