Under produced Otters?

The Otter 1200 series houses seem to sell out pretty quick. Is there a reason they don’t crank out more?
I noticed it last year and this year I’m ready to go but hard to find. I was sick and missed the Ice show, might be worth waiting a year.

Just curious, maybe some of you pro-staffers know?

The production numbers on the Otters have gone up every year for as long as I can remember. As more and more people have come to appreciate the quality of the product the demand has grown exponentially and that demand has proven difficult to predict. Every year Otter thinks they’ve planned for the demand only to end up sold out on most models well before Christmas.

If you’re looking for a specific model you might want to put up a post asking for help locating one in your area. I do know for a fact that all XT 1200 models from the Cottage on up to the Resort are 100% sold out for the season at Otter so your only chance would be to find one at retail.

I work at Scheels in Fargo and I’m almost positive we still have the 1200 lodge.

If it makes ya feel better I can’t buy one within 200 miles of my house! I’ll probably end up with a frabill POS!

Thorne was the only place I saw with any 1200 lodges left on Saturday at the show and they were down to only a couple.

I think the extreme winters of the past two years have something to do with this as people who may have previously gotten by with a lesser house or no house at all have tapped out and went with the best. If you can’t find a 1200 I will say that while the 650XT is not “fully” insulated it has double layered canvas on the entire house that will more than keep you warm. My advice would be not to worry about whether the 650 is warm enough and chose based on whether you prefer a bench seat or bucket seats. The 650 Lodges at the show were going for $600-650 and I know both Kruger Farms and Reeds had a few left on Saturday.

Will. I’ve actually thought the 650’s would be fine with a heater, but I do prefer the swivel seats and I’m starting to think I could modify one and put in nice boat seats. I’m not as hard core as some, if it’s well below zero I’m inside stoking the fire!

Thanks for all the help guys!

To go off of Will’s point, I bought a 650 lodge from Joel Nelson last year and have been very impressed with it. Has been plenty warm every time I have had it out and we all remember what winter was like last year. The bench I kind of feel like I could take or leave, it’s comfortable to sit in though.

And, just for curiosities sake I was pricing them out at the Ice Show since a couple friends were in the market. I got a price from Capra’s of $575…. That’s hard to beat.

Just bought the 650 Lodge for $599 at L&M Fleet in Park Rapids. Will pick it up this weekend when we go to the cabin.
I talked about this place with Will last winter, their prices are fantastic! Augers run about $100 less than anywhere else and have free shipping.

It’s worth a look for anyone in the market for houses and augers. Hub style house also have free shipping and are priced very well.

I’ll get it set up Saturday morning and hopefully break it in at sunset on Leech!

Mills Fleet farm in Wait Park MN has a bunch! I really want to buy one but working at fleet fleet farm and going to school doesn’t leave me with much spending money!

Thank you! I’m heading up to the cabin Friday and if the timing works out I might try catch the sundown bite on your lake!

    – Glad you like it. I’m still in a 650 and love it. I don’t think you need to feel like you’re getting the “cheapo” Otter when you get that model, as it’s extremely warm and easy to heat. If I lived up near the Canadian border and fished extreme temps on a regular basis, I’d own one. But even then I’d miss the bench. Love the bench!

i just got the cabin 650, i think it will be plenty warm, so far low is all i have needed on the buddy to stay warm, but i also have a striker climate suit so thats almost like wearing a ice house it self.
