Ulterra vs. Xi5

For those of us with the first generation iPilot Terrova we all know the spot-lock feature is inconsistent…some days holds relatively well, other days not so much. Word on the new MotorGuide Xi5 is that it holds the ancho radius very well. I have been told by reps at a couple big box stores that MinnKota is aware the Spot-Lock feature needs to be tightened up – and they are adding new processors to their trolling motors to improve this feature. Apparently the new processor is available on the Ulterra now but won’t be on the standard iPilot Terrova until next year.

So, my question is – is there anyone out there that has used BOTH the Xi5 and the new Ulterra to weigh in if MinnKota has caught up or is still behind in regards to the Spot-Lock/Anchor feature?

Actually, I added this post as a follow up to the one you reference. The way I read the other post was that people were comparing the Xi5 to the first generation iPilot Terrova, but not to the Ulterra which has an improved processor over the old Terrova iPilot. I would be interested to know how the Ulterra and Xi5 compare specifically to the Spot-lock/Anchor feature. I would assume both are an improvement to the iPilot Terrova, but I haven’t used either personally…

I’ll let you know how the Ulterra does in a couple of weeks. SBC just installed mine, i’ll pick it up tomorrow and run it next week.

Thanks, will be interesting to know. Had you used the first generation iPilot Terrova previously to see if there’s much of a difference?
