Ulterra trolling motor issues please help!

  • #1963680

I’ve been having difficulty with my new Ulterra Trolling Motor. I was out fishing and it was working fine. We pressed power to turn it off and then we tried to use it again, pressed the power button the trolling motor would not deploy and the green light and the red light on the Ilterra stayed on. My i link remote control had a message on it saying motor not found and had an x through the prop symbol on the top of the i link. Then the eye link had a message saying motor error. I’ve tried repairing the i link and even tried holding down the button on the Ulterra which would cause the greenlight to continuously flash and then I turned it back on again.I also tried turning off the motor and then quickly pressing the power button three times with some of the troubleshooting websites indicate for a reset. I’m at a loss of how to fix the ulterra and it’s literally a month old. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys

Have you tried using the footpedal to see if there was a problem with remote? You can google this issue and then get a cheat sheet for future use. They are great motors, but can be frustrating when stuff happens. Also condition of batteries is key. These newer units hate low voltage.

Thanks a bunch for your reply. My ulterra did not come with a foot pedal I use it pretty much for offshore fishing. I checked the batteries as well and reset them by unhooking the positive. Everything seems to be solid with the batteries I also have a lithium battery which seems to be pretty solid as well. Not sure if my son accidentally reset the ulterra when we were out yesterday. I asked him to press the power button to turn it off and I think he held it down for a while I’m not sure if he reset it? but it seemed that the problem started shortly after that.

I would just try a re-pair procedure as new.

Unlike some others,I use the footpedal as much as the remote. And those link remotes sink like a rock,a guy I fished with fat-fingered his into the drink. So a footpedal is great back-up,also try the app on a phone.

Did you do an actual voltage check of your batteries 12.5 should be resting voltage?

I had something similar. It happened when I had not used it for a while since I was using the Vantage and the Ulterra turned off by itself. Can anyone confirm that powering down by itself after a few hours is normal?

Tech support sent me this. It worked. When it first happened I couldn’t get it deployed. I think it had to go through a power down cycle and maybe disconnect power first. I didn’t try this procedure until the next time out fishing.

Netguy, I went to using my kicker when the wind came up and a few hours later I noticed that the Minn Kota had turned itself off.

possibly not completely stowed. try pushing in on lower unit mine did something like you describe when i tried to deploy before removing ram head support. You should have a foot pedal or link to a humminbird you will be very glad if the remote quits or goes for a swim.
