    Hello
Had the boat out for 1st time this last weekend.
Could not find the Ulterra hand remote and had to use the foot pedestal.
What a pita that foot pedal is.
Pushing down the “on” switch, while trying not to push to hard to make the motor turn, nothing but cray Ivan ALL day long !
Anyhow, is there any aftermarket foot pedals maid for Ulterra trolling motors and if so, any experience with them?
    And yes,
I found the dang remote an hour after we got back.
    Thanks

On my Ulterra I never hardly ever use the top button for off and on I usually just use constant and adjust the roller when speed needs changing. I am the total opposite I hardly ever use my remote except when trolling..

yes, the design on the pedal is lacking.

add a bit of a “riser” to the center on/off button to create a little more relief from the left/right turn buttons. just get a piece of dense plastic, cut to size, and screw/epoxy onto the existing pedal button. your toes will have an easier time finding it without turning the boat.

I prefer using the foot pedal vs the remote personally also. Not sure about aftermarket pedals but would assume they don’t exist?

Using that pedal takes some time to get used to though. Before my newer one I was much more comfortable with(and still may prefer) cable drive systems.

Good idea to “raise” the on/off button at the top left of the foot pedal.
    Constant mode +1
At the end of the day I had it on constant and the crazy Ivan was not as crazy.
I guess I should not be as upset as I was, if I got the boat out more, I would be more proficient at its use.
Still, the design in my opinion, of the on/off switch having to be pushed down, while also pushing down to turn one way, or pushing it down, while rocking your foot back to turn the other way, is just “NOT GOOD”.
I will leave it at that.
    Rant over
    Sorry to blow up again.
I have not seen any “aftermarket” foot pedals for the ulterra trolling motor, searching the web, googling and or asking other forums .
    Thanks to all

I’ve used a cable drive pedal since 2016, prior to that I used the flatter electric steer pedal of a powerdrive. I can also say the cable drive pedal is vastly superior. Those flat electric steer ones have an awful response, were loud, and definitely leave something to be desired on their design, which is probably why most opt to use the remote nowadays.

I previously owned a Terrova 80 with foot pedal and US2 sonar. I learned a lot. Namely, I don’t like either of those features one bit. So I ordered my current unit without pedal and without US2. Clocked in at under 1k for a brand new Terrova 80. Those foot pedals suck and the one time I needed it (batteries died and forgot spares) it didn’t even work. I absolutely love the remote though.

    Seriously? That sounds super cheap.

Without foot pedal they have always been that cheap. But if you purchase one that way, you can never add the foot pedal to it. I wish they offered it without the remote. I highly doubt that I will ever use the remote that mine came with. I would gladly done without if it saved a few hundred $

Min Kota also has an App that you can download and you can use your phone as a remote. It actually works pretty well if your remote were to die and you couldn’t use that.

Thumper, what remote do you have? Regular ipilot (buttons only) or ipilot link (touchscreen)?

The one it came with. I think it’s the ipilot link. I believe it has a touch screen. To be honest, I never even looked at it. It’s buried under the counsel someplace. I guess I should pull it out and figure out how to use it, just in case my foot pedal craps out.

Guess I was unaware and would have probably went that way, unless I’m Bass fishing which is rare I do not use the pedal. Most Walleye guys I know only use the remote.

Question: is the foot pedal easily removable? I also use the remote exclusively. Thx.
