Being a salt water fisherman. Junk knives don’t cut it and quality steel is a must. Shark skin will dull a blade in seconds. Pompano skin is like wet tissue paper. The old Rapala off the shelf just won’t cut it. I wanted to give my recommendation of Ugly Stik knives. Budda Blades and the like are great, but they don’t give them away. Ugly Stik knives provide similar quality without the price.

My plan is to see how well they fillet alligator Friday or Saturday. With any luck.

I’ve been meaning to try Victorinox knives for some time. It seems like butchers and chefs swear by them.
I think unless you’re willing to pay top dollar for premium steel, you’ll need to keep a steel around while filleting fish.

I’ve got these in my cart waiting for a reason to buy them.

I have that first 8″ one and like it. I don’t fillet a lot of fish, am a pretty light user, but somehow my rapalas were always dull and pissed me off. This has stayed sharp and I just like the flex of it and the handle.

I’ll throw in a sales pitch here for a company I’ve purchased from a few times. I’m not affiliated in any way other than being a customer, but Northwoods Seasoning out of Centerville, MN, manufactures a very nice fillet knife. Check out their website and call, not sure why they don’t list the fillet knives on the site anymore but they are VERY nice for the price IMO. The seasoning is good too lol. I just bought a few as christmas gifts so I’m positive they still sell them

    What they say

They didn’t have any knives on their website but bought a couple of their seasonings.
