Type of Crimp Connector for Marine Battery for Humminbird

I’m installing a Humminbird Helix 7 G2N DI on my boat and as usual I have the tiny red and black wires. I want to run it on its own 12v battery in a box under the console. What is making my semi-hungover brain confused is what type of connector do I run with such a small gauge wire?

Is there a round type I can get that will fit on the posts? Or do I just strip wire bare enough to wrap on the post and secure down with butterflies?

    Thanks for any help!

A “standard” ring terminal will work for a threaded post. Might have to special order or buy on-line the specific size you need but they are made. Sta-kon brand make one for 18 gage wire and up to 1/2 dia ring size.

Other wise you can go with a terminal strip which attaches directly to the battery post and has provisions to attach 4 or so wires. I believe Cabelas carry these.

Soldered ring terminal. A little overkill but pretty solid.

I agree with Dave on the terminal strip. They are also called distribution blocks.

Strip off 4x the amount and double/triple the wire up in connector. Don’t over think it.

In addition to the ring terminals shown above, I use these ferrules to add some bulk to the small-gauge wires from the ‘bird. Send me your address, and I’ll drop a few in the mail to you.

Thanks guys! Also man the guys at Batteries Plus are great. I went with a few Duracell AGMs. No more spillage risk

Most hardware and auto parts stores will have individual terminals. Also check the local Farm and barn. Soldering would be preferable to crimping. Adding a piece of heat shrink tubing makes i nice looking connection with some strain relief. Slide the tubing on the wire before the terminal and shrink it last.

I agree with Bigg. A dab of solder will eliminate bad connection problems in the future.
