I have been following the boat forums since the summer. Has anyone heard where Lund fiberglass production will move to now that Sea Ray has been sold? Is that why no more 2019s can be ordered?

I was at the Sportsmans show and was looking for Lund Glass boat models, the salesman at Rapid Marine said they did not bring any to the show because they are holding off on purchasing any. They are waiting for a year until they see how the manufacturing process shakes out.
The hulls are now made in Mexico

    .

I had the exact same conversation with them. I need to see them at the show. Nelson’s is now getting 4 so I’m going to wait until then and do a side by side with the Reata.

They were being built in Tennessee.. right.? When did they pull up and move?

Brunswick was trying to sell Se Ray last year. Last summer they decided to end the sale and close the FL Sea Ray yacht plant instead and keep the TN plant open. With the sale rumor was production of the Lund GL line was being moved from the Sea Ray plant in TN to the Bayliner plant in Mexico. With the Sea Ray sale not happening not sure if they will retain any or all of the Lund GL production.

“For you guys boat shopping waytogo it’s a very fun thing to do up until the day you have to sign your name. ”

I’ll second that lol. Actually the break-in period was pretty hard for me too, since I had to find the time to just get it all done at once. Very anxious before and during but after it felt like a weight was lifted

I strongly suggest a test drive as what you see is not always the same as your specific on water experience.

Dean, how soon will you guys have an open water ride? I assume when P4 opens up a bit more?

I spent about an hour each in the Lund and the Reata today at the show. I was surprised that the Reata’s fit and finish and overall quality seemed much better than the Lund. The storage and layout seemed better as well. I don’t like that you can’t get full cushions for the bow. The small storage areas for phones and tools are great – the integrated cooler is also nice.

Lund stated they have a superior hull for big waves – not sure how much salesmanship or truth to that there is. Getting a 200HP on the back is a big draw for me – really wish the Reata was rated for that.

My wife liked the Reata better and I think we’re leaning that way. I am probably going to wait until I can get it on the water. Too big of an investment not to test drive. Doesn’t seem like a test drive of the Lund would be an option given the limited production.

One issue I had when looking at the Lund GL’s is the hardware. You can pay $80k for a 219 ProV GL and still get the cheap plastic compartment latches. I would think they would upgrade since they’re supposed to be comparable to other top end glass boats.

Dean, I haven’t bought a boat from you yet, but SBC is definitely on to something by offering test drives. None of us would ever buy a new car without driving it, but people throw down $70k on a boat and hope they like it….

I agree – that was my comment about fit and finish. I was really surprised how cheap the plastic panels and latches felt. The Reata was noticeably better to me and my wife. Even the carpet in the Reata felt like better quality.

I’m with you on the HP, we all want more… but I’m wondering if there would be a noticeable performance difference in 25hp. I realize they’re different boats, so may be difficult to compare.

Probably doesn’t make a huge difference but I’ve always been a believer there’s no replacement for displacement.

If you are fishing 75% of the time and want a 200 then you should be looking at the ranger 1880.

Horsepower got me out of a Skeeter and into a Lund. For reasons known only to Skeeter they wouldn’t produce a hull to handle a tiller with over a 115 hp motor.

That 25% of the time is family time – more important than the 75% fishing time. The Angler doesn’t have a seating area on the bow. That’s a deal breaker.

I think the 1850 is well built and rides great but really think it could use a larger engine especially since the 1880 is built on the same hull. Ranger said the cap for the 1880 allowed extra bracing letting it handle a 200 and didn’t sound like they were planning on updating the rating on the 1850.

On a side note if you end up going with the Ranger the owner of the one I rode in noted even though there seems to be more standard goodies there were some small things that need to be optioned that are standard on the Lund. The ones He noted on his were tilt helm, auto bilge, and venturi aerator that were added after the fact. Not a big deal to add He just wished it would have been equipped with those options when the boat was originally built.

Been awhile but ordered the Reata from SBC yesterday. Should have it in mid May.

Ended up going with 175 Yamaha vmax, Garmin graphs with livescope, and a 112# Terrova. I’m pretty pumped and the guys at SBC were top notch to work with.

The similarly equipped Lund was almost $10k more. I think the Lunds are a good boat but not for the extra cost.

I’ll post some reviews once I get it on the water.

Congrats on your purchase Matt. I’ve had a Reata for several years and both my wife and I still love it. Great ride and comfortable to fish out of, no matter how big the waters are that you fish. Also, love all the room in the back. Have fun and see you on the water.

For 10k the Ranger is a no brainer.

Been a couple years now. How are you liking the Reata. I am in the same search now. Looking at Tyee GL because I feel like the sidewalls are better for the kids. In the end think they are both probably good.

I do like that the Reata is now rated for 200.

Love the boat….it’s been phenomenal. With a 200 now that makes it even better. I’ve had the boat on some big water and it is great. Also a great family boat.

My buddy has a 189 Solera with a 200 Yamaha. It’s 5 to 7 mph faster which would be nice. His Solera is also a nice boat and worth a look.

Thanks, I was curious about larger water. I have always though the lund might be a bit better on large water but what do i know )

What do you get for speed? And did you end up doing a kicker?

No kicker on mine – I run a talon instead. I have a 112# Terrova which moves the boat quick enough.

It’s likely comparable to the Lund on big water but I came from aluminum. A couple of trips on LOTW it was blowing pretty good and we didn’t have any issues. I’d suggest good seats with Wave Pro’s or something similar though.

It’ll move at mid to upper 40’s with a decent load of fuel and gear. Plenty fast but my guess is the 200 gets you to 55 or so. The big V6 yamaha 200 is a beast.
