Anyone running this boat? I don’t see many on the water but I’m in the market and this seems like a good fit for me and the family.

The boat will be 75% fishing and 25% hanging out so looking for decent size and a comfortable layout. I like how far forward the windshield is on the Lund. Spend most of my time on the river or medium metro area lakes. Might get on big water once or twice a year. I own a Lund aluminum boat now.

Anyone who has one or has an opinion feel free to share.

Can’t help on the particular boat you are asking about. I’m running a 20′ Pro V fiberglass tiller. I have very limited time in it so far but what I have noticed is……….

Heavy boat. Much heavier than my Skeeter was.
Very stable. Length, width, weight all equal a very stable platform.
Interior seems well constructed. Locker doors are well built. No corners cut that I have noticed yet. Like all Lunds they seem to sit high on the trailers compared to other brands I have owned.
I was told there is no wood in mine. If true thats another plus. grin

Thanks Dutch. I’m good with heavy and stable. Doesn’t seem too many people run glass Lunds. I wonder why that is?

Cost is a big part of it. Also I think people just associate Lund with aluminum like you associate Ranger & Skeeter to fiberglass.

$$$$ From what I see, and just my opinion is they cost as much as a Ranger or more. Most people just buy the Ranger then.
The little I have seen them and talked to owners, they like them.

Thanks guys. I’m going to start pricing out options and see where I land. I think the Ranger Reata is probably the comparable model I’d look at.

I purchased a 189 last year and love it. I was just told today that you cannot buy a 2019 Lund GL as they are sold out. The dealers can’t order anymore. So I’d hunt for any leftover 2018’s. Gonna be tough to come by.

Nelson Marine is getting 3 of them in and I have the specs sheets on all of them. I might need to move quickly if I want one of them. Was hoping to wait til the boat show to make a decision.

Mike, are you running the 200 Pro XS? All 3 Nelson’s has are rigged with that engine.

    I agree. Great looking boat.

I’m running the L6 Verado. So far no complaints. Amazingly quiet and smooth. The power steering is also a huge upgrade from the L4. I run on Big Winnie and the North Shore in some pretty big stuff and the set up has been remarkable.

Those are awesome boats. My uncle in N.D. has one he uses on Lake Sakakawea and it handles that big water just fine. Gets plenty windy in N.D., and it handles big wave fine.

Matt, you can only get one if you put a kicker, down riggers, and trees on it like Mike L. If you don’t do it right away, we will never get you on the big lake!
I bet you could troll down on the 200, so you can have a pass for now on the kicker..

I have been following the boat forums since the summer. Has anyone heard where Lund fiberglass production will move to now that Sea Ray has been sold? Is that why no more 2019s can be ordered?

As to the boat, I looked long and hard at that boat and knew it was the boat for me until I did some soul-searching and knew that sticking with a tiller was the right decision for me.

But I spent a long time comparing the Tyee 189 with the Skeeter Solera, Triton Allure, Ranger Reata, and it all came back to the Tyee. Part of it was my MN pride and wanting to stick with Lund, but I also think it’s a solid, well-built boat. The only downside is the weight so you’d better max it out.

I agree with others that if people are going to spend that kind of money, they will go with a Ranger. Especially since Ranger has always been the cream of the crop, top-dog boat that people envy. It’s kind of a badge of honor for a lot of guys to say they finally get their Ranger.

It’s crazy how in the past couple of years, with the booming economy, guys have to get their orders in before Christmas if they hope to it by opener or at all. It used to be you were completely safe waiting until the Minneapolis boat show. Not anymore.

I agree the Lunds are heavier. I don’t know that speed is really all that important unless of course you are a tournament guy. I buy glass for the ride. Speed seldom comes into play although I will admit part of the reason I sold my Skeeter was to get a larger motor. But, my 115 hp Skeeter wasn’t much slower that my 200 hp Lund. Plus the Lund will suck more gas if I hammer the throttle. That Yamaha was a great motor on my Skeeter. I love the ride and I remember the day perfectly that tipped me towards my Lund. I was standing on the dock at Ash Ka Nam resort. Travis Carlson a guide pulled up to get gas. He was running a 208 Pro V windshield boat. I couldn’t believe the amount of room in the back of the boat. Thats what moved me to pay closer attention to Lund for glass boats. I happened across a 208 Pro V tiller and the rest is history.

Part of the reason I think boats become harder to get is the sophistication of the boats. Years ago boats were pretty basic and I would guess the factories could crank them out pretty quick. Now you have multiple live-wells/ bait-wells jump seats pre-rigged with a zillion electronics and all this stuff takes time.

I will say all the boats I’ve owned Ranger, Skeeter, Lund, Tuffy, Crestliner, Nitro, Spectrum have all had their pluses. There aren’t many bad boats anymore and I don’t think any bad motors at all. You spend a bunch of dough for them but overall they are pretty solid if maintained and taken care of.

For you guys boat shopping waytogo it’s a very fun thing to do up until the day you have to sign your name. doah grin

Dutch, that’s a great boat with all the trimmings but a loaded 2019 is almost the same price. From what I’ve seen, including the 3 Nelson’s is getting, is fully loaded it’s right at 60k. No kicker though.

Yes, I have no idea the value of Talons & jack plate. I just saw it and thought I would throw it out there for you. Check with Nelsons about the platinum warranty for the Merc.

The platinum warranty is new to me. I need to look into it.

I always wonder why guys sell brand new boats like this. I gotta assume financial troubles but I hope that’s not the reason.

Deal, I can think of a number of lakes that boat would be fun on!!! That WalleyeCentral link is a beauty, but could all those batteries and equipment make that 175 underpowered?

For those prices I would by a ranger and sit on my extra stack of money.

Probably about $6k difference between the two. The big differences for me are:

    1) I own a Lund and love it.
    2) The Tyee carriers a 200HP, the Reata is only 175.
    3) Behind the windshield felt bigger on the Lund – I don’t know if it actually is but the layout seems like more. I think the windshield is farther forward.

I’m still looking around and the Ranger is #2 on the list.

Have you looked at the 1880 ms angler. Not the reata. Much better boat.

Hadn’t looked at….really need a more family friendly boat. I can do some research but my assumption was the angler was more of a strictly fishing boat?

As Dustin stated 1880 has jump seats, optional ski pylon, bow cushions and raised rod locker. There is not a bow rider conversion due to the large rod locker. 1880 is a nice boat and was a major contender for ordering last spring but Ranger wouldn’t let me get it with the 200 pro verado so waited for V8 Pro XS. I ended up ordering a 2019 189 Tyee with the V8 since wife insisted on a bow conversion and I wanted the lager 200 with DTs for smart tow. Both are really nice boats but need to keep the Boss happy. Enjoy shopping.
