Stripling signed with the Giants. I think it was 2 years $25 million.
Was that today? Must’ve missed that.
December 13, 2022 at 7:02 pm #2166225Where did you see this? I’m not seeing it anywhere yet.
Sorry. This came up as a breaking news headline from Twins daily on my phone. Since then, if I try to click on it I get an error page. Clearly at this point it wasn’t official.

December 13, 2022 at 9:45 pm #2166264Arraez led the Twins with 137 RBI + runs scored. 3 ahead of Correa. Lopez is a 0.500 pitcher. We don’t need another Radke.
December 13, 2022 at 10:16 pm #2166274Christian Vazquez and their reported commitment of $30 million ranks as the third-largest for a free agent in six years since this front office took over. Here’s the (embarrassing) Top 4:
1. Carlos Correa – 3 years, $105M (opted out after year 1)
2. Josh Donaldson – 4 years, $92M (traded to the Yankees)
3. Christian Vazquez – 3 years, $30M
4. Jason Castro – 3 years, $27MKnot AgainPosts: 11December 13, 2022 at 11:07 pm #2166287Well, there it is……They better try and land Rodon now but I suspect that won’t happen either. Hopefully they sign some pitching.
December 13, 2022 at 11:17 pm #2166288Heyman reporting the Twins offer was 10 years $285……..We were real close.

Crazy what 20-25 HR 65-85 RBI costs!
Karry KylloPosts: 1271December 14, 2022 at 8:59 am #2166366I’d credit his agent. I don’t know all of the details yet but getting the Giants to sign Correa to a 13 year contract for $350M is a pretty good piece of work, especially when long term contracts rarely work out for teams.

Red Sox and Yankees want him so that hope is gone.
December 14, 2022 at 12:00 pm #2166502I love baseball but they gotta come up with a way to even out the league. Somehow the teams with the highest payrolls (by far) still are the teams that get all the top free agents. Twins could have given Correa 30 million a year and Verlander 40 million still wouldnt get them anywhere.

I’m sure at some point in this contract the Giant’s are going to be paying $27M/yr for his Astro’s production 8-10 years ago.
December 14, 2022 at 12:11 pm #2166516Contracts like these are funny. In a way, being that he signed in “today’s dollars,” it might actually be reasonable halfway through. But I don’t honestly think teams expect today’s level production on the back half of that contract. In my opinion, especially as a Twins fan, that contract is totally worth it if it contributes to even one World Series appearance, maybe even an LCS.
December 14, 2022 at 12:16 pm #2166519There never was any chance of signing him, I don’t care what the reports were. I have no problem with the Twins selling hope, they are pretty good at it. They have tickets they need to sell and it’s easier if the fans think a star is coming.
Onto part 2….Rondon is a pipe dream unless he settles for the same type of pillow deal Correa did last year. Big money with a opt out. I think the Twins think what they have can keep them in contention and maybe even win the division. If they all stay healthy (which they won’t) they will battle until the bullpen inevitably is burned up again in August – September.
Part 3, it should be quiet in Twinsland until February when they start signing whats left of the pitchers and position players looking for one more chance.
Oh, the next rumor will be Swanson at short. That has zero chance also.
December 14, 2022 at 12:20 pm #2166527Ahhhh the MLB.
…a league with rapidly decreasing viewership and no reigns on salary cap or parody whatsoever. Maybe when the average game reaches 5 hours in length, these contracts will start to make more sense for those asleep at home in their recliners trying to watch?

Yet the NFL can have games as long and nobody complains. It’s not the length of the game, it’s how they are playing it and the short attention span of fans.

WildlifeguyPosts: 384December 14, 2022 at 12:48 pm #2166545I agree, MLB is definitely a parody of a major sports league…:)
December 16, 2022 at 3:54 pm #2167209Guys, guys, guys we got him. We got our guy! Joey Gallo 1 year $11M!!!! He hit .160/19/47 last year with a 0.2 WAR. Renew those season tix now!
December 16, 2022 at 4:03 pm #2167213Well with the “Fat Kid” gone you need somebody to be concerned about launch angle.
So, you dump a guy who played decent defense, played all the time, that the fans actually kind of liked in Urshela. At the time I said & thought it was only because he was arb. eligible and might cost them $9 for the year. In his place they sign this guy who also plays good defense but will make the fat kid look like a contact hitter. Fans won’t care one way or another about him. You pay him $11 million.
Well I need to remember Falvey is boy wonder and has completely changed the franchise and has it moving the right way.
December 16, 2022 at 4:21 pm #2167219$11 million for Gallo…
Puckett has to be rolling over in his grave….he topped out at what? $3 mil/year

that was what 35 years ago????? they just print money in 2022. inflation is a monkeybutt
December 17, 2022 at 8:45 am #2167325Just about the worst player the Twins could’ve signed. Already have 3 Joey Gallos.
December 17, 2022 at 9:39 am #2167334Launch angle baby!!
He just might hit 25 solo homeruns.
“He can be fixed.” -Twins Front Office
BrittmanPosts: 1944December 17, 2022 at 5:26 pm #2167431I really liked Urshela – he was a gamer.
Gallos has two RF gold gloves. I am sure Twins management hope for a rebound at the plate.
In 2021 Gallos led the AL in both walks (111) and strikeouts (213).
