Oh I’ve been standing at the front door for a few seasons now. But each time they gave me reasons to not walk through it. After this past off season and the blatant F you to the fans with the pay cut and TV issues, and now this, I’ve walked right through.

The really sad thing is it’s going to be even worse next year. Realistically the way this cheap asses think, the payroll will be slashed even more next year. But that’s our fault for not showing up to games (to a product they deliberately made worse when fans were most excited to support the team).

Baseball has never a thing for me. The games take too damn long for one. I will watch the twins but I won’t watch a whole game and certainly don’t want to go to a game. If they cut payroll again I’m certainly done. Last year I watched more games than ever because they were good. What a correlation.

Got plenty of infielders could have done without Correas contract but then they would have just pocketed that money also and not got more pitching. Im a life long Twins fan but it is definitely getting old.

Did you guys see the reports of what other teams wanted for half-season rental pitchers? Sounds like the Twins would have had to give up Brooks Lee, Walker Jenkins or others…

Sure they’re cheap, the TV deal is bad but price of talent was too steep..

So…..you’re not wrong. And there are actually numbers out there showing that teams that give up prospects in rental trades almost always “lose” the trade by way of the pitcher not matching the production they thought they’d get, early exit from the team in the playoff, or less-than-desired playoff performance from that rental.

Our recency bias has us all wondering why the Twins didn’t try and improve the team via trade….which would have them giving up something to get something. I know it would’ve been expensive, but they could’ve just re-signed Sonny Gray in the offseason and not had to part ways with anything other than Pohlad money. That’s what most teams wanting to go forward and not backward would’ve done anyway….

I think the disgust goes much further than this years trade deadline.

Reasons like this is why I take my son to the local diamond to take in some great amateur games in the Stearns and victory league. We spend out Friday nights spending 20 dollars having supper along with peanuts and a couple cold refreshments while he plays ball with the other kids.

Are the Pohlads cheap? Absolutely! They are a for profit business. Until there is a salary cap in MLB, owners will do as they please. This is a MLB problem not a “Twins” problem. This year I don’t blame the team for not doing anything to bolster the rotation. I’m still salty that they didn’t trade for Cliff Lee like 10 years ago at the deadline but water under the bridge now.
I don’t invest any of my money on any MN franchise so its all entertainment for me. Wait….I did buy Timberwolves plates for my truck but that goes to charity. They won’t beat the Yankees, Braves or Dodgers but I give em 60/40 chance against the rest of the field. The future is bright!

Yeah thats a hard pass if true. sometimes the best deals are the ones you don’t make and this FO has a bad track record.

Let’s not forget that they had a chance to resign Sonny Gray for cash! No loss of prospects or young talent. Ownership decision indefensible ☹️

I think they might have ponied up for Sonny, but at the end of the day he disliked Rocco too much to come back. The Twins would definitely be in a far stronger position with him this year.

Exactly, it takes 2 to dance. If sonny didn’t want to be here it doesn’t matter.

The message from the front office was they were reducing total payroll, there was no chance that Sonny was coming back. Dollars fix plenty of relationships in pro sports.

It is pretty clear that winning a World Series is not really what the owners want.

I am fine with Correa’s six-year contract. He is a gamer and is good guy for all that young talent to be around.

Joe Ryan will demand a bit more than the $758K he is earning this year. Bailey Ober is also earning about the same amount. Both on one-year contracts, but both have “MBA arbitration” through 2027 and then become true unrestricted free agents in 2028.

But hey we have Dobnak through 2028. roll

The White Sox are historically bad. Let’s not get too excited here.

They’ve now lost 20 games in a row, one shy of an all-time American League record which was set by the 1988 Orioles (to start the season!).

The MLB record for consecutive losses is 23 which was set by the 1961 Phillies.

Ironically, the last time the White Sox won was way back on July 10…against the Twins.

Actually this is a Twins problem. You realize if the mlb institutes say, a $125 million salary cap, the Pohlads would say, “that’s the most we can spend. But we’re not the Yankees, so we are only going to spend $75.”

This is in fact 100% a Pohlad problem.

There are plenty of teams just like the Twins or worse that use this model. A salary cap evens the playing field quite a bit for better or worse. Its one thing if one team spends 125M and another spending 75M. The problem the MLB has is one team spending 315M and another spending 62M. Where is the competitive balance? Where do you see that in pro sports? Too many big market teams spending anything they want because they can. I don’t like the Pohlads but how is that competition?

Nice win tonight on the road vs a team with a payroll 100M more than the Twins.

Payroll is key to win ships but there are lots of ways to improve rosters.

    I like this teams chances

Maybe all the business/financial stats in the world really do not matter.

Twins made a push into the playoffs and rather than dig deeper (or stay the course for that matter) and try win a World Series they pull back on the throttle.

Twins ownership really do not care about winning a championship. Winning just enough to pull people into spending money on the franchise is probably enough.

    Then there is this:

The Minnesota Twins Major League Baseball team is estimated to be worth between $1.15 billion and $1.46 billion. The franchise is owned by the Carl R. Pohlad Family, who bought it for $44 million in 1984

Is this supposed to support your Pocket Protecting? Nearly every decent team is 5-42% higher % than the Twins.

Really like our chances if Correa can get healthy soon.

Last I heard the Twins were 4-21 vs potential playoff teams this year. If anything were a legitimate reason to not make a move at the deadline, that would be it.

This team can really control its own destiny in the next week or so. We will know how good they really are playing (starting pitching, relief pitching, hitting, scoring) by early evening on August 14.

Yep pretty much! Its impressive how good the Orioles are with how little they spend.
