They have had a 5 game lead give or take for 90 percent of the season. Cleveland has had plenty of chances to make up those five games. They just don’t.

It happened last year. We were in 1st for 3/4 of the season and then it all fell apart.

Since the All Star break, Joey Gallo is:
    11 for 80, 9R, 5HR, 10 RBI and 47 k’s.
Why hasn’t he been sent to St Paul? Anybody, or a rotation of anybody’s in his spot in the lineup would’ve produced more in that timeframe. Miguel Sano would’ve been better.
When can management say, thanks for trying, but we’re moving on.

Guys that have been in the majors that long are usually “out of options” aka you can’t send them down. They could have just cut (DFA) him though – and I’d be in favor!! Too bad Larnach and Kiriloff haven’t been able to contribute the last month, I think Gallo would have maybe been gone then.

Can’t say that I’ve seen him play enough in the field to say it’s warranted by he does have a gold glove and he’s a good baserunner. In theory he adds value there but yeah at the plate he’s a minus for sure

In order to be a good baserunner you need to be on base…he has 28 hits on the season that aren’t HR.

These are Gallo’s historical numbers. He has always been a low contact homerun guy. The Twins didn’t bring him here to hit .300 and win batting titles. That being said he is having a awful year even for him. We as fans would hardly notice if Correa, Buxton, Polanco, Kepler, Kirillof & Vasquez would have had productive healthy years. To much injury list, to many swing & misses and to much trying to carry the team by yourself.

Prior to this year we all whined about the pitching. We could hit but couldn’t pitch. This year we pitch but can’t hit. But what is true in all years is that if you don’t get into the play-offs you can’t advance. We should be happy they are where they are in the standings. We shouldn’t be satisfied and complacent but we should be happy.

But, they are hitting now. Which is good. I think they are 3rd in the majors in runs scored since the All Star Break. Maeda, Keuchel and Ober hurt this team over the last 3 weeks. Maeda is starting to fade after showing some promise and Keuchel needs to be a long relief guy. Luckily we can move them both to the pen in the playoffs where the are really needed. If they hit like they are now, and Lopez, Ryan, and Gray can keep pitching well, they really could win some postseason games. They are probably going to play Texas or Houston.

Both Texas & Houston are beatable. However I’m not sure the Twins can beat them with the front office calling the shots.

Players play. Turn them loose to play.

I think Royce Lewis likes hitting with the bases loaded…

    Maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t claim Giolito……

This is going to get ugly.

I wonder what the deal is with position players just lobbing it in there at 50 mph. Seems like kind of a newer thing – I mean they’re MLB players, I’m sure they can throw 80 with little effort. Just seems like in the past when a position player had to pitch they sort of tried. Not that it matters, just something I’ve noticed this year.

    Castro’s throws seemed excessively “lobby”

It has become simply warm-up batting practice or HR derby-type pitching. Mainly pop-ups or home runs with no one getting hurt.

While there are certainly many position players who likely pitched as a youngster … I think most are more concerned with what may come back at them vs. actually striking someone out.

Buber is balking almost every pitch. You cannot flinch like that after you come set.

man, all the Twins have been taking some very good at bats lately…just working the counts into their favor…so nice to watch compared to the swing at everything at bats from the start of the season…

    TRAINER’S ROOM
Twins: RHP Chris Paddack, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022, will make a rehab start for Fort Myers (Low A) on Wednesday. He’ll throw three innings or 50 pitches.

That’s good. I actually liked him when he first got here. Hopefully he can get back to his pre tommy john self. Forgot he was due back here at the end of the season.

Awful nice time to have the bats heat up. Hopefully they can keep it going past Sept.

I absolutely LOVE that they are not cramming Buxton down our throats. Concentrating on singing the praises of those in the field and at the plate NOW.
The boys are playing well and having fun. Told my wife during the game ” between 5 of those at bats if we had gotten an additional 3 feet total between all of them we would have 4 or 5 more runs. At least 4 on the wall, Polanco needed another inch….
Regardless of who they are playing, when you get a “taste” of the baseball it seems to help you click on making contact. Fun to watch for sure

Slightly different story. Yea they fell apart but they had a 1 game lead in August and were games back come Sept.
Not 5 up on a team that can’t get over .500 in Sept.

You’re not wrong Rip. My point was we are only an injury or two away from the same scenario.

Also, the reason Buxton isn’t being rammed down our throats is because he already got hurt in his rehab stint in St Paul. They sure kept that quiet.

we’re much deeper this year vs others…I would have liked them picking up another strong bullpen guy at the deadline, sucks that Cleveland was able to poach ALL 3 of those relievers from the Angels (sounds like this will push for a future waiver wire rule change) but based on the last 2 games, it looks like we really didn’t miss out on much…Like others, I just dread hearing “Pagan warming up in the bullpen”

Up until now I had held out hope that Buxton would actually be able to get healthy and contribute. Really starting to believe he is just done for good.
