well that sucks. KC brought their A game. never easy for a mediocre team. clearly need another lefty out of the pen and another bat. basically given the division so time is now to make some moves.

I told my daughter about the walkout grand slam. She said, “Typical MN team.” rotflol

yeah that was pathetic. i don’t see any reason to trade for a run at the playoffs this year. even if they back in, they will get plowed in the first round. sell high on Sonny, the scrub and one of your 3 lefty corner outfielders.

I don’t think they are a World Series contender but this team even as it is now is better equipped to finally win a PLAYOFF GAME or series than it ever has been. If they pick up another good bullpen arm and maybe a good hitting outfielder they could go a little ways in the playoffs. They aren’t going to deal any of their rotation guys. Sorry eyeguy, but selling off Gray right now is ridiculous. That’s like telling the Wild they should’ve sold off Matt Boldy before the playoffs last season.

It’s kind of a tough spot for the team being in such a bad division. We really have no business being in the playoffs but it’s tough to deal away good players when you’ve got the inside track to winning the division. If we were in any other division we’d be in 4th place or lower and I think it’d be a no-brainer to deal Gray since it’s very unlikely he re-signs here.

Our rotation is one of the best in baseball. That’s a fact. They have shut down really good lineups all season. We just need to score runs more consistently and we need to get at least one more dependable arm in the bullpen and I think this team could win the first playoff series.

Why would Gray not resign? He gets to be the #1 or #2 here. They will pay him, he isn’t in line for a 5-10 year deal. He can command a no trade if thats what he wants.

I really don’t understand some things. This is clearly far above and beyond any starting staff they have had in years. This years failures are the hitters, relievers, coaching staff & starters in that order.

What they need is more contact hitters who can spray the ball.

I don’t see them re-signing a 34 year old with guys like Paddack and Varland waiting. The market has been kind of weak the last couple years so they may, I just don’t expect it.

Sonny’s dislike for Rocky has been obvious and he has hinted at retirement after this season so why not deal him before letting him walk for nothing?

One thing this front office has shown incapable of selling high on players so they probably won’t do anything for fear of screwing the pooch again.

I wasn’t. I was just too embarrassed to comment here. But it doesn’t change the fact that IF they get into the playoffs, they have a good shot to win some games just because of their rotation.

Hell, cant hit the ball. No doubt a major problem.
The wheels are not off the bus yet ( we can all hope for some “leadership changes” in the off season).
THese are all pro players. And in any given moment/game/series they can put it all together. Happens in every sport. I have told countless soccer, basketball and baseball teams full of kids from 5-16 the same thing for years. You can always win if we play together as a team and perform.
Twins were on the losing end of that this weekend. It happens. It sucks.
Let’s see how they bounce back.
My 29 year old son plays “beer league’ softball in the city league. They have a number of guys 40 and over who are not in the best shape anymore, who play just two games on Sunday nite for nine weeks and never practice. Switch out positions all the time and generally do not manage their options very well but are there to have fun. Thankfully the rest of the league has lots of comparables in terms of teams.
Playoffs last nite and our team ( maybe a .500 record…..) Gets a close win their first game against a higher seed then they get the number one team – who is 4 players short and we score no runs on them in the first! The other team gets their full complement of players by the second and we end up winning 21-3!
    Smoked em.
How? THe guys played excellent defense ( players where their strengths are instead of just anywhere) balls went through the holes instead of to gloves and they got 2 homers. The other team is tacked with young bucks who look like they are wearing batman or superman costumes they’re in such good shape.
THey put the fundamentals in place the first game, had success, kept at it the second game and got rewarded. Two pickoffs from someone rounding the base who was not paying attention and a bomb throw from center field the get a runner out at home.
I think our team was more astounded than the team they beat – games with them have never even been close before.
It happens in pros as well – let’s see how the Twinkies respond.

What a disaster of a division we are in. We lose 5 straight, basically gift the Indians back into the division race, and what do they do? Trade one of their best pitchers. You can’t make this up. jester

The KC debacle has me firm on the trade anyone that is not in the future plans or can get you a nice return next few years.

Obviously Gallo or Bux have negative trade value so they are here to stay.

Sonny, scrub, Polanco, one of Larnach, Wallner or Kepler can go to highest bidder.

Still might back into the playoffs this year and get blasted by any east or west powerhouse. You only need 3 starters in the playoffs so Sonny and Kenta should be moved ASAP. Kuechel in St. Paul needs to be up if both get moved.

Gallo is playing to his numbers. Everybody knows with him it’s all or nothing with good defense.

    Buxton they won’t move.

    Scrub isn’t going anywhere.
Polanco is on a cheap contract.
Wallner is on a cheaper contract.
Kepler is on a cheap contract.
Gray, maybe will be moved but I don’t see the point.

    I’m thinking they do nothing.

If they do anything it’s probably another ok relief pitcher.

If you think Scrub is getting moved I want what you’re drinking. He’s about their most promising young player who can impact the MLB club in the organization at the moment.

I can’t really see moving Julien, Wallner, Larnach…young guys with several years of team control yet. You’re not going to get anything worthwhile for Kepler so meh. Polanco, maybe I guess – not sure what his contract situation is like. Gray is probably the only guy really worth much on the trade market.

Weren’t you guzzling the koolaid last year after Miranda broke out? Where he at now?

I guess I would prefer to move guys who have exceeded expectations or have reached their ceiling. I don’t trust the staff to develop much here.

I been making excuses for them all year and then they go and get swept by AA KC Royals and totally redeem themselves!

Even if they back in, they will be lucky to win one game in a series.

Even if they back in the fact that they have legit starters gives them a better chance to win a playoff game than they have had since Santana was on the team.

They are obviously playing for next year after not doing anything at the deadline.

I just about fell off my chair when Rocco pinch hit Solano for Gallo against a righty, the announcers were saying he maybe is going for contact. That goes against everything this team is been built for hitting the last couple of years. Lo and behold he got a hit to score two runs and those were the winning runs! We needed another 2 bullpen arms and one of them needed to be a lefty. We also needed a right handed bat preferrably an outfielder. When we are i nthe playoffs against a good starter we may strike out 20 times.

They sure were teeing off on Ryan that inning. He was tossing lollipops in there and they just kept hitting them out of the park.
