I don’t understand why Kirilloff isn’t starting every game. I really like Julian in the lead-off spot.

Because Rockhead is an idiot. He won’t play him against a lefty because it’s not what his clipboard tells him to do. Even though he’s the best guy to have in the lineup against a lefty because he’s their best all around hitter.

It’s the same reason he keeps trotting out Pagan. He’s an idiot.

rocky could have brought Pagan in yesterday and saved Stewart for a more important situation like today but no why would we do things that make sense?

100% I’ve never seen worse bullpen management and then he blames not having arms available for having to use these guys. Said 3 guys were “absolutely not throwing” today. Basically that means a Rocco bullpen would need about 15 bullpen pitchers for a 3 game series. This guy needs to go NOW. A manager shouldn’t have the opportunity to lose this many games for a team no matter what.

he is probably one of those guys that is trying to stay one step ahead but most of the times it backfires. he brought in Moran today to face a lefty on lefty but the next 3 righties lit him up.

unfortunately the only way he goes is if they blow it in the end. i don’t like him much either but i would like to see meaningful games in september too

Rocco -not so fond of his style that’s for sure.
Stop looking at your spreadshhet for the answers.
You’re a coach – intuition, experience, moment in time – use all of the skills that got you the job.
BYE BYE Byron! JUST not worth it!
I wonder if he is actually in “control” or he’s directed to do what he does?
Reminds me of the scene in MOneyball where the coach looks at Brat Pitt and says he wants to run his team in a way that he can justify in an interview next year.
I LOVE that movie but not the coaching methodology – can i have both?

I have wondered if Rocco is the one making in game decisions also Umy. It wouldn’t surprise me for two reasons. Rocco was an old school style player when he played and he was really good. Second, he was a really smart player. It has surprised me how against fundamental baseball he has been since he took over.

I think Pagan could be fine as a mop up guy. He throws hard, and can eat up innings. Any manager worth his weight could see that. Rocco should be gone before Pagan in my mind. Rocco is the one always putting him in those situations.

On a positive note, the some of the bats showed signs of life over the weekend. Lewis had 7 straight hits after struggling for the past week, Correa had a nice weekend with a handful of hits and 2 HRs, Kirilloff does what Kirilloff does, that is when Rockhead plays him…..

Twins on the board and the bigger news, Watkins held someone that would’ve been thrown out at home by 15 ft!

You cannot throw a strike to Yellich 3-1 with two outs. What a terrible pitch. Game over. This team just does not understand the game. Time and time again they prove it is true.

Let’s hope the pitching staff stays healthy and strong while the Twins batting simply improves as the summer moves along with peak hitting and scoring in September and October.

I suppose many on this site were too young or even unborn in 1987 … but that Twins team won just 85 games in the regular season. They won in the play-offs because of solid pitching and timely hitting. I suppose the old dome helped a bit too.

Long way to go if they plan to beat the Rays in postseason if they stay healthy.

Yeah it’s great to see Correa looking like his usual self. Buxton is pissing me off, or at least the way they are handling him. During the first game of the Brewers series, the pregame said the update on Buxton was his pain from being hit in the ribs was gone, but he was still working through some discomfort…..

Just get rid of him already. I’m done with him. This has put me over the edge. I’ve been hit squarely in the ribs with a 95 mph fastball in college and I played the second game of a double header right after. You didn’t break your ribs, get the hell out there and play!

    Amen Mahtofire
He’s good but just not worth the “management’ of the team that arises because he is injured so easily/often. Can’t even use him as a bench player cause he can’t play defense.
It will only get worse with age.

Two weeks for a bruise in inexcusable whether that’s on the player or the management.

Totally agree, this is the same story as Mauer. Sign your franchise player to a huge deal, then baby him beyond belief and move him out of the position that made him so VALUABLE! These guys are thoroughbreds that need to run, not show ponies, run them out at their position and let the chips fall where they may. Or don’t and they never play a full season anyway. Dumb.

One of the most overrated players in all of MLB. IMO.

I’ve never thought he was one of the best like this area likes to think he is, but best on our team I was ok with. But with as streaky as he’s been the last couple years when he’s actually on the field it’s just not the case. When he’s hot he’s damn good. When he’s not, he’s terrible. I’m done defending the guy. Especially if you can’t play for two weeks after getting beaned.

Just doesn’t play enough for me. And to be permanent DH at his age and being a so called 5 tool guy just doesn’t do it for me.

Not sure if anyone saw what Doug Mientkiwicz had to say recently about the organization and Buxton but it didn’t paint a great picture for how they handle star players.

I missed that. What’d he say? I’m sure I know what he was most likely implying but I’d like to hear the quote.

Sure does Dutch. I think we are going to see that style come full circle very soon though. Look at Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy. Their teams are playing extremely well and they are old school coaches. They use analytics but still manage and coach the way the game is supposed to be played.

Buxton is off the IL so I’d imagine all the discoloration of his bruise is finally gone so he can play. coffee

Mientkiewicz recently appeared on A.J. Pierzynski’s Foul Territory podcast and the two former teammates naturally got to talking about the Twins. This prompted Mientkiewicz to call the organization out for the way it handles its future star talent in the minors, something he claimed to have experienced firsthand while managing Byron Buxton in Fort Myers.
“It’s surprising that Buxton’s doing as well as he is because to me, we developed him in the [wrongest] fashion possible,” Mientkiewicz said. “Thankfully, he was just good enough to where his talent finally came out. I still don’t think that he’s put it all together yet, and when he does it’s going to be epic.”
He seemed to blame the Twins front office, painting a picture that his lineups were micromanaged to the point where he couldn’t put them together the way he wanted or he saw best for Buxton.
“The No. 1 thing you always hear in baseball is what? You gotta make adjustments. Well, in Byron’s case, yeah you throw him heaters in A-ball he’s going to kill you. We all knew the slider was his kryptonite. For example, I put him in the 3-hole one night in A-ball and they’re like, ‘You can’t do that.’ I’m like, ‘Why not?’ And they’re like, ‘Well, we want him to hit leadoff.’
Who “they” are in this isn’t made clear, but it’s not hard to connect the dots

There was more more just google Doug and Byron Buxton.

I might have to listen to that one. AJ hasn’t been afraid to blast the current Twins regime either.

some general managers are just too dang stupid to put it honestly. they could have got rid of Buston when his value was high years ago while aware of his chronic condition. did they really get a bargain on that contract? maybe but you will never convince me on this part timer? i never bought the hype on him or Hicks when they rammed it down the fans throat.

good GM’s get rid of players before it’s too late and doing so now is desperation. this group is pretty easy to con as evidence of Paddack and now Mahle trades. lets hope the Lopez deal doesn’t bite them in the ace as he had some stints on the DL in Florida too or so i heard…..i am still a little salty on dealing Luis but i understand the problems they have at developing starting pitching. they really hit gold with Duran, Stewert and Jax now that he is pitching like he can.

now can they pounce on the Tigers while they are down? they better!

The only deal I’m upset about is the Mahle deal. They gave up two of their best prospects for him. They knew Mahle had arm problems. They new Paddock had some arm problems. I’m haven’t given up on Paddock yet. I think he can come back and be a solid rotational piece. I’m done with Mahle. No matter what you think of the moves, the bigger issue is the amount of times this GM has traded for arms that have known issues and sure enough, they blow their arms out after about 5 appearances. Sam Dyson is another one they took after knowing his arm was about to blow up.
