Paddack from many accounts has the stuff to be pretty good. Kepler wouldn’t be a big loss other than defensively. He hasn’t hit since 2019. Will Myers has been statistically better than Kepler offensively.

I’m still not big on losing Rogers though. Duran could be lights out in the pen this year though. Was unhittable in spring training. Guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

    Who was talking about Montas?

Rumors are heating up. Sounds like it could be a package deal for Rogers, Kepler, and Larnach for Paddack, Will Myers and Emilio Pagan. Rumors of course but most “insiders” making it sounds like multiple pieces on both sides could be moved.

That sounds awful if it is true. If the padres traded for Manaea, there must be something off with Paddock. I would see what it takes for Montas or stay put until the trade deadline.

Montas probably won’t be traded until later in the season when the A’s have more leverage. Paddack had a great rookie season then struggled the last two seasons mostly because of a couple injuries. Healthy now, and has good potential. I don’t love it, but don’t hate it either. Padres are trying to keep up with the Dodgers so keep that in mind when it comes to their deals. They have one of the best starting rotations in baseball on paper, but could use a good arm out of the pen.

Well it’s done. Twins get Chris Paddack and reliever Angel Pagan for Taylor Rogers and Brent Rooker. It’s a fairly good haul for one bullpen arm but the pen will now have to rely heavily on Duran and Alcala and Duffey. I’m confident Duran will be good, but Alcala and Duffey I’m not sure.

Paddack has the stuff to be good, hopefully we can get it out of him.

I don’t like losing Rogers at all, but the achilles heal of this team for years is lack of quality starting pitching. So, its a trade-off but one probably have to do. Fingers crossed that Paddack becomes something reliable as a #2-3 level starter.

Concern with him is the elbow injuries, but he has already had TJ surgery, so maybe its just scar tissue… worst case scenario bone chips that eventually get taken out. Its a risk but the Twins were trying to trade Rogers last year before his injury, and likely weren’t going to sign him beyond this year anyway.

Evidence #63,857 for the reason why I stopped caring about the Twins. Always robbing Peter to pay Paul. They could have easily signed a Free Agent pitcher this offseason as good or better than Paddack that cost them nothing but money the league gives them. Instead they trade one of their best Bullpen arms from an already questionable bullpen to get a questionable starter. When the fire sale starts (looking at you Correa) around the trade deadline, don’t say I didn’t warn you for the 12th consecutive year.

Last year it was a nagging finger injury. Elbow was good. The Pagan guy is pretty highly thought of too from what I’ve read.

Werm, I don’t disagree with you at all.

At least they didn’t give up top 10 prospects for this guy. Not upset at all seeing Rooker go. Rogers is a FA after this year and Paddack is under team control so it’s a Twins kind of deal.
They sure are doing a lot of wheeling and dealing so I give the FO some credit to make improvements. Yes it would be nice to not rely on trades but we have no idea if the free agents they are courting even want to come to fly over country?

On the bright side our staters will average 1/3 of an inning more with even less to back them up now.

Well the thing about Free Agents is other than some well established (and well paid) veterans looking solely for a championship, they generally go to where they make the most money and have the best opportunity….

The Berrios thing makes me scratch my head again. He signed in Toronto at a very reasonable rate; although he said he was open to staying in MN I have to believe he wanted to leave.

Yeah I got the feeling that was for the fans. He most likely made it pretty clear to ownership he wanted out. Not signing Berrios allowed the Twins to lock up Buxton so take that for what it’s worth. As for Rooker, there was no where for him to play. Defensively a liability everywhere he plays and while his bat was ok he’s a high K guy with two straight seasons of injuries. We have enough of those types.

Jeez Duran. Had to shake off some jitters by my god. 100 mph fastball and a 96 mph splitter that moves like that??? Kid is hopefully going to really help the pen.

good to see baseball again as i did not watch much if any of last year’s debacle.

    positive notes:

Duran…..wow this guy has some nasty like i never seen! and throws triple digits too
Rocco actually let his relievers go more than 1 inning!
Sano looks lean and not as trigger happy
    grass looks nice and green!

    negative notes:

Buxton still sucks…..what has he ever done that everyone gushes over? i don’t get it?
what’s up with all the mullets in the league?
Arraez still the best hitter on the team but is on the bench?

ya ya i know it’s one game but some things change, some stay the same. i hope they stay competitive so i can pay attention

I thought I read somewhere that they were not allowed to shift. Did I just make that up in my head?

I think they are still contemplating this as a rule change for next year.

AA and lower they can’t shift. Next year they are implementing it in AAA and major league.

Saving games for the Padres! We can all second guess but I read somewhere that Duffey has blown 9 of his last 13 chances. You would think the analytical manager would have that info stashed somewhere? If Duran proves he can throw strikes, I expect to see him close games at some point

    GBOMB!!!!!

I’m pretty sure Correa has already saved the pitching staff four runs in the field so far this season.

Buxton 3HRs in last 3 ABs. Ober giving up a bunch. High offense and poor pitching – now this is what we were expecting!

welcome to the dong show! all runs off the long ball last 2 games. did MLB bring back the juiced ball? sure is refreshing to watch the team drive the baseball after dealing with the small ball era.
