Went to my first Twins game last night of the year and it was packed mainly because Cole Swindell was playing after. Fun game to be at until Rocco pulled Sunny. I dont watch much baseball at all and from reading this thread I know the opinions on Rocco. Question is are other team putting their pitchers on this sharp of a pitch count? Keep Gray in another inning or 2 and its a complete different game.

Yes, other teams are doing this as well. However its usually teams that have sub par rotations. You don’t Gerritt Cole or Max Scherzer getting pulled after five innings. Also, it’s not the pitch count that matters. Whatever numbers these guys follow say that a pitchers success drops significantly when they face a lineup the third time through. That’s the thinking. Last night Gray needed to be pulled. He was all over the place and somehow kept getting out of it. The problem (and this is always Rocco’s problem) is who he brought in.

Agree Mahto Gray was done. But when you are only allowed to go 80 pitches you are not going to have any more left in the tank to go more even when pitching great. Berrios tonight against Mahle. I see that Berrios has a 4.96 ERA so he has not had a good year at all. Hopefully they let Mahle pitch over a 100 pitches like ha has for Cincinnati, but I bet when he gets near 80 he will be pulled. If they don’t start letting the starters go to a 100 pitches they will have no bullpen left even with the new arms.

As I just said, pitch count doesn’t matter. It’s the third time through the lineup. That’s why they get pulled. I think it’s stupid but that’s the reason, not pitch count. And yes, Berrios has not been good this season.

Duffey just got DFA’d but not Pagan. Unreal.

Makes sense with the rotation and I must of not been following that closely on how well he was pitching.

    That Pagan guy sucks.

per Gleeman, Pagan is aweful. since 2020 he has a 4.82 ERA 29 dongs allowed in 123 innings. during this time, no reliever has thrown more innings with a worst ERA. he has allowed the most dongs per 9 of ANY reliever and has the worst win prob of any reliever………IN ALL OF MLB! maybe they are saving him for mop up innings?

Gordon, who had three hits in the game, was the automatic runner to start the bottom of the 10th. Jordan Romano (3-3) struck out Jake Cave on a low slider that got past Jansen, who threw wildly to first, allowing Cave to reach and moving Gordon to third.

Tim Beckham hit a grounder to third baseman Matt Chapman, who threw home to get Gordon trying to score. Jansen likely would have had the out but didn’t catch the ball cleanly.

Hard fought as in blowing a 5 run lead and having the Blue Jays hand the game to you.
They have some guys including Arraez who aren’t hitting since the break. They have a guy (Gordon) hitting well who isn’t as good as what he’s doing now. Plus they have a bunch of guys who aren’t or can play. That outfield is AAA caliber at best.

Oh well, a win is a win I guess.

I didn’t get to see the game as I was at a wake, but I was awful excited seeing Mahle seemingly cruising through five. Then the HR’s came. That has been an issue with him. So we’ll see how that goes moving forward. The bats are starting to scare me more. Polanco, Arraez, Sanchez, Buxton when it isn’t a homer. Correa I think will snap out of it soon as he’s still hit the ball hard, just always seems to be right at someone. Miranda, Gordon and Urshela are the only ones hitting right now. They need Kepler and a couple other bodies back in the lineup.

I’ve been reading between the lines by Gleeman and a couple other beat writers that everybody is battling nagging injuries so that may have something to do with it.

Heard Pagan say he has some of the best “stuff” in the league. Well, where the hell is it??

Yeah a bunch of people have said that actually. Not “in the league” but Rocco and others. Actually heard LaVelle this morning say “he has unhittable stuff, he has just been getting hit a lot.”

Seriously this state could have an excuse for anything.

for a while there he had good numbers as long as he wasn’t facing the Indians. that is not the case anymore. last time he pitched i think i saw one pitch that had some deception to it otherwise his slider and fastballs are right down broadway. he has the velocity but needs to stop with the meatballs.

i can’t believe it but Rocky brought in a lefty to pitch to Merrifield and it worked. did he throw his analytic strategy out the window? clearly Fulmer was not ready after throwing last night so props for that.

HOLY $HIT…….a lefty vs a righty out of the pen, a stolen base and a bunt all in the same game! has Rocky lost his mind shock Sandy Leon may be my favorite acquisition of all of them…..the guy is a Bulldog!

another perfect example of why guys like Jake Cave have a spot in pro MLB. I think it is safe to put Pagan in?????????

big game for the possible ROY in Miranda. the swiss army knife Gordon making an impact once again. not the Bomba squad but a team full of playmakers!

Unless Witt Jr. in KC & Rodriguez in Seattle collapses one of them should win ROY.

I missed the start of todays game. I see no Correa I can only assume he is hurt? Big Sunday afternoon game vs a good team and no China Doll, no Correa. Starting Archer, my whats the world coming to. Calvin would have fired anybody who sat the stars on a Sunday home game.

Heard Bremer say Kirilloff is done for the year.

Buxton is a terrible pinch hitter. He gets way too pumped up. Not sure why Correa didn’t start. Pinch hit to that’s a good sign at least. Almost got clocked in the face on that 0-2 pitch though. Be nice to see them tie it up here in the ninth.

There it is! What a great job of hitting by Sanchez and Arraez. Lets end it before the stupid extra inning rules.

What in the world is Sanchez supposed to do with that tag???
Is that even officially a challengable call?

Actually think it was the right call, Sanchez didn’t leave a lane. Very close, but I think he could still make the catch with his foot/knee 10 inches further towards the infield leaving somewhere for Merrifield to slide w/o obstruction.

Was fun to see Rocco bust a gasket though… will see if it carries over and fires the team up (and if he gets fined for dropping the bleeps at the NY cameras on the way off the field #%*$!). That was classic – –

It’s the worst rule other than the extra inning baserunner in the game. Slide around the catcher. He only put his knee down to kneel so he could tag the runner. It’s a garbage rule and one that shouldn’t be challengable because it’s up to someone’s opinion not black and white rule.

Agree, it’s the crazy Buster Posey rule… however bad as it’s written, I think it was interpreted correctly today as much as Rocco would disagree with me.. And I know most everybody here disliked Mauer, but he always took the infield positioning (just inside fair territory) and would do the sweep tag to the runner as they neared the plate. Might’ve worked today – –

Here’s my issue. If Sanchez took the infield side 1. Sanchez would’ve had to lunge back to the plate and 2. the runner would’ve been by him already.

I just don’t think it should be a call that can be challenged. Use this thread as an example. We can’t agree on what the correct call is. Because the rule is subjective to whoever is looking at it. Those types of plays should not be reviewable.

The call is BS if he has to reach around to n me ale the catch AND Kay the tag NO ONE would ever be out. I get not creaming the catcher but that’s just BS
Pussification to the nth degree IMHO
Rocco’s post game analysis was spot on. They need to figure out a way to change tgat

Replay was meant for fair / foul balls & Homeruns. Look what it morphed into. The game is becoming disgraceful.
