P.S. Dave Winfields the greatest athlete ever from MN, but he only played baseball and basketball so I’d say Mauer was better IN HS (National Player of the Year in Football and Baseball and 2x All State in Basketball).

Seriously! I think you are forgetting about Kent hrbek! In all seriousness though trey lance might have something to say about that in 15 years if he is able to put it all together on the field

I would agree with Winfield honestly. My Legion coach was one of his closest friends and he had all kinds of stories and videos of him when he was young. The guy literally could do anything at a professional level. Mauer is definitely along with him though. Winfield didn’t get the press that Mauer did when he was every bit as athletic.

Admittedly I only watch the Twins when forced to at the cabin, but this Ryan kid throwing HR derby tonight is the future? shock

He’s pretty good Werm. But he is a guy that when he’s off (which he has been from time to time lately) he is going to get knocked around. I think he’ll be a solid mid rotation guy. Especially if he keeps improving his change up. The main issue is our other top pitching prospects that were in AAA have all either been hurt or getting lit up this season. Our only legit remaining pitching prospects are all in A or just starting AA

I’m submitting that to the preposterous statement tourney bud! Dave Winfield was drafted by 4 teams in 3 sports, was a star baseball and basketball player at the U and had a HOF baseball career. Lance would need to rival Tom Brady to get into that convo.

Agreed. Another season leading the division with nothing significant done to improve their playoff hopes. Even worse than the Bomba year when they at least picked Sergio Romo off the scrap heap.

the trade deadline is not done yet, but everybody that is a contender needs pitching help so the prices will be sky high. I think we should sell and see if Correa is going to come back or ship him out as he could get us a good return.

So you think there is a big market for a guy who can opt out? Maybe a class A guy or two. Plus who eats the balance of his salary for this year? No, I don’t think Correa is going anywhere. He also isn’t staying next year if the FO shows no willingness to improve the pitching.

This is why I’m the most angry about what the FO is doing. As small a chance as it was, I believe we could’ve convinced him to stay here if we won games and showed we were serious about winning. But there’s not a chance if we keep going the way they usually do.

Josh Hader got delt to the Pads. I freaking knew he was available. That’s the guy I really wished we would’ve been going after. So lame we just sit on our damn hands. I hate this front office so much.

when i talk about athlete im holding strictly to the sense of his physical abilities – agility, speed, strength…. How much success he has in the game he plays really doesnt have anything to do with the matter. Nor does whats between the ears and how they use their brain to process the game. there have been a great many men and women who were world class athletes who flamed out of the sport they played in professionally.

I think of the sports that Winfield played basketball would be the one that would showcase a persons athletic ability the most. I tried to find some highlight videos of him playing but failed to come up with much

Long time ago but I think Winfield was with that Corky Taylor team. I seem to remember he was the 6th man. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think he left school early to turn pro in baseball with the Padres.

“ Winfield grew up in St. Paul and excelled in baseball and basketball at St. Paul Central High School and then at the University of Minnesota. “Winnie” averaged 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds in 46 Gopher basketball games”

i’m all but certain Winfield picked baseball as his career over BB and football because of longevity and injury possibilities!!!!

Yankees gave up 4 of their top 21 prospects. But we all know the Yankee prospects are always over-rated. So, either the Yankees prospects are much better than ours or Falvey either didn’t check in with the A’s or didn’t want to do a deal. Twins certainly don’t need another starter and another arm that has closing experience. coffee

I’m a Brewers and Twins fan and loved Hader, but his value to the team was dwindling with a decent pen beyond him.

He’s a FA after this year. He’s having the worst statistical season of his career. He’s going to seek out huge $ for a closer who may or may not regain what he had. Hader wouldn’t push the Twins over the top and were smart to stay out of it.

Bucky I think Hader has 1 more year left on his deal. Rogers is in his free agent season.

    Ahh gotcha.

Either way I’m comfortable with what the Brewers got in return for him. He wouldn’t have made sense for the Twins to dump things for him in my opinion

This kid is going to be a cornerstone. Already a better hitter than 7 out of our starting 9.

Miranda may be a cornerstone one day but Duran is a once in a decade arm if I ever seen one! you can’t teach arm talent like that

And Urshela has been the most underrated player on the team. Great defense and clutch hit after clutch hit.

But still no moves. Sanchez did not look that bad tonight, he jumps right in the rotation. I still can’t believe when are bullpen is overworked. Gray goes 5 innings and pitches 79 pitches and Sanchez had 81 pitches in 5 and both got yanked.

Falvey probably found Sanchez walking around outside target field, handed him a jersey, smacked him on the rear and said LFG.

I feel like the team thinks anyone can get a few spot starts in there randomly and give them a chance to win. they never added any arms in 2019 when they won 100 games so I don’t expect a big move but another reliever would be nice. they can get away with it in the regular season against the tigers but when you get in the post season you cannot trot out Randy Dobnak in game 2 and expect to win.

exactly, heck the Astros traded Odorizzi, he would of been an upgrade for us, now it sounds like we are after Tyler Mahle from Cincinnati, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

There are still about 5 starters out there that could help us. Not as much as others but Mahle, Syndegaard, Rodon, and a couple others would all be upgrades. I’ll take two and two relievers. But it won’t happen. I’ll be shocked if they get one. Sanchez deserves another start also. He can pitch, but he kind of got the yips after a 15-2 season with Toronto in like 2017 and has been trying to find it ever since.

Well decent first move. Jorge Lopez from the Al’s. Pretty good closer.

He is trending up statistically, but the lifetime 5.50 ERA and WHIP of 1.50 aren’t great. Compared to T Rogers who we traded away last year at 3.30 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.

    A catcher is next…
