But if he plays 100 or more games each season for the rest of his career I bet the only stat he doesn’t pass Mauer in is batting average.

This is a pretty big stretch for a guy that has done it one time in 7 year and approaching 2 in 8 years. Say he plays another 6 years for a total of a 15 year career which I think is a stretch. How many of those years are going to be a hundred game years. When Guys defend Buxton they always say if he stayed healthy or if he played a 100 games he would do this or if he continued to for average. Id be happy with three good years and trade him when the value is spiking again.

I’m not a big analytics guy obviously but if you look at WAR which everybody seems to use as the end all be all of valuing players Mauer had a career WAR of 27.5 in 1858 career games.

Buxton has a 19.1 WAR in 568 career games. If he kept going at this rate, he would be at 38.2 WAR in 1136 games. 722 games less than Mauer ever played.

Joe Mauer was a good player. He just wasn’t that valuable.

Sorry but your stats are a bit off. Joes career War was 55.2. So Buxton playing 16 seasons will not be close to Joes WAR in 15 seasons. Unless he plays a hell of a lot more.
No way Buxton has over 2000 career hits and unless he plays for over 15 years does he pass Joe in RBI’s or Runs. Honestly you could argue that the only offensive stat he will pass Joe in is HR’s and well strikeouts.
Not a Buston hater or Joe lover just sayin.

I played against him in high school

x2 and Mauer was never clutch even in HS, despite all the accolades in all the sports I think he only one won State Championship, in football as a junior. And he was at Cretin, so it’s not like he was the only athlete on the teams.

Not that it matters because I think the argument is sort of ridiculous but he won 2 state titles in baseball. 1 in football (Cretins first ever) and played in a second when he broke his collarbone in the first quarter and played the rest of the game.

Sorry I missed the 1 baseball championship in 2001. I couldn’t find if he was on the roster or played when they won in 1998 when he was a freshman. He separated his shoulder, not a broken collarbone in the other state football championship. So 1 in Football and 1 in baseball which I’m sure is not super rare in MN, but still probably the greatest HS athlete of all time in MN.

Twins vs Daddy’s for the weekend series! Is this when the wheels fall off? Could be a good thing and accelerate any possible moves they are pondering? Looking at what is rumored to be available for arms, it looks like a bunch of mid level starters and no top of the rotation rental so I wouldn’t dangle too much to get another number 3 guy.
I would focus on relievers since this regime likes to pull starters after 4 innings anyway. Heard Staumont from KC is available and wouldn’t cost too much. find another lefty and see what happens?

and just like that i see the home squad makes their first splash signing Brad Peacock shock

you guessed it, another guy who used to pitch at a very high level a few years ago. actually had some stellar numbers in AAA for the Royals this year so can’t rip the signing too bad but seems like the same type of move every year. roll

We play 10 straight games the next 10 days starting tonight against San Diego, Detroit and Toronto. I believe we will be out of first after this 10 day stretch unless there is bullpen changes. Hopefully we can add about 3 new relievers and a starter to boot before the deadline.

Only 1 team in the national league has hit LESS homeruns than San Diego. That might all change before the Twins leave town.

Admittedly I only watch the Twins when forced to at the cabin, but this Ryan kid throwing HR derby tonight is the future? shock

P.S. Dave Winfields the greatest athlete ever from MN, but he only played baseball and basketball so I’d say Mauer was better IN HS (National Player of the Year in Football and Baseball and 2x All State in Basketball).

Rocco will pull a pitcher after 2 hits and 40 pitches in 4 innings. But he leaves Ryan in there to get lit up for 10 runs? shock doah

Meh you know the hook is coming soon anyway, and *should* have some pride in protecting the plate. Can’t have them diving in and teeing off, now every team knows he will never come up and in if he wouldn’t now.

    One down, from the Athletic.

The Cincinnati Reds traded Luis Castillo to the Seattle Mariners Friday night, the team announced. Heading to the Reds are Noelvi Marte, Levi Stoudt, Edwin Arroyo, and Andrew Moore. Marte (SS), Arroyo (SS) and Stoudt (RHP) are three of the Mariners’ top five prospects, according to MLB Pipeline.

I do not agree with Rocky 90% of the time but this might be a life lesson for Joe especially since the bats arent doing much

didn’t he retire like 10 years ago? I always thought he did a great job at 2nd so not sure why he changed positions?

He knew the Twins would need pitching.

Did Rocco leave Ryan in too long on purpose to prove a point to Falvine about how bad this team needs to add quality pitching?

I’m not sure even that would prove anything to them. Gleeman said it’s literally their philosophy to NOT invest in pitching. and GLEEMAN ACTUALLY AGREED WITH IT!!!!

This franchise and the media that follows them are so backward it’s incredible. They won’t be signing anyone remotely meaningful at the deadline guys. Seriously, these guys don’t have a clue.

I think they have a very good clue. Like I said a week or two ago they will take the low cost starters trying to rehab or jumpstart their career. To that they will attempt to sell us on the over-hyped system of pitchers they have. Bullpen? Scrape some crap off the bottom of the heap and hope they hit one or two a year. Any money spent will be on the position players.

With the TV dollars they need to put very few actual butts in the seats.I encourage everyone to stay away from Target Field. In fact, stay away CHS Field in St. Paul also as thats all the same pot.

The trade deadline will again be remembered as a year they did nothing.

They won’t be acquiring anyone significant. They should at least try to get some prospects for Correa.

His no trade clause says that won’t be happening.

So you pay a guy $35 million a year plus he has a opt out PLUS you give him a no trade? Boras is good.

Apparently old AJ was on the broadcast last night and ripped Rocco pretty good for taking out Gray after 70+ pitches and a good 5 innings after he whined in the pregame about his bullpen being exhausted.

Yes he did. He has about the same tolerance as Jim Kaat when it comes to this style of playing the game.

Good, maybe if enough people who know the game rip enough people something will change.

Seriously! I think you are forgetting about Kent hrbek! In all seriousness though trey lance might have something to say about that in 15 years if he is able to put it all together on the field
