He gets to start in the ALl Star game but can’t start for us?????
DOn’t care if it IS the All Star game ( great player but should he have been there at all in the first place)? How about somebody who plays every day instead?

He was a sub and started in place of Trout who went on the IL.

People are just so used to complaining about Buxton not playing, he has played in 73 games this year which is good for sixth on the team. The most games played by a Twin this year is Arraez with 84… Find something else to complain about, he’s been playing plenty this year.

I see 44 games in CF
24 games as DH, and 2 games that he started as DH then played CF.
4 games as a PH, 2 of which he then played CF
    1 game as a PR

The best kind of “ability” is availability.

He is a CF, and that’s where he impacts the game the most. To me, anything other than CF for 9 innings cannot be considered the same because he “played” in some other facet. The Twins roster isn’t good enough to give regular preventative breaks to their best player and still be a contender. They need every win, and Buxton in CF is the best option to win.

Buxton is extremely talented, but will always be one routine play away from some paid time off for injury. Keep in mind his lack of durability has been through his mid 20’s. I hate to see how he will need to be used in the coming years as every nagging injury gets that much tougher to recover from. That’s very tough to build around and manage.

Oh Rocco has no trouble giving days off or managing a injury, either real or perceived.

Whatever they are doing they are kinda keeping him on the field so I guess there is that. Then you have guys like Urshela, Arraez, Polanco that short of losing a limb they want to play. I won’t lay this on Buxton, I think he wants to play every day but the front office wants him healthy so this is what you get.

Here is what I will say, you never, ever give a starting player a HOME game off if they are healthy enough to play, never. Buxton puts butts in seats but only if he is in centerfield.

6 out of 8 starters is not something to pat him in the back about. He is on pace to play more games than any of the previous 5 seasons however. So I guess that’s good.

How about his 216 batting average. Can we complain about that.

Gordon clanked a line drive hit right to him. Fox announcer tried to blame the sun but Glenn Perkins working the game was having none of it.

    Second half needs:

-2 bullpen arms and a quality starter.
-Buxton needs to start swinging for line drives again. The power will still be there.
-Starting pitching needs to get their heads on straight again. Ryan last night was a good start, but it was the Tigers.
    -Rocco needs to be fired.

Ok that last one was just my wish…..

I think the Twins got super lucky to get Lee in the draft. He fell down to them because all of the pitchers drafted before him, which was a surprise to most people. Best batter in college baseball last year and has power. Projected to be 3b or 2b in the bigs. Very good for the Twins, and he’s a college player which means we should see him in a couple years instead of 5.

I thought I heard yesterday that the Twins were going to announce their intentions with Sano tomorrow. Anybody else hear this?

Hit somewhere around the Mendoza line with a lot of strike outs. Not sure we should expect anything else at this point at has not proven otherwise

EYEGUY “Calm down there…….Buxy has been playing fairly regularly these days and seen he is on pace for 120 or so games give or take? higher than the previous guestimate from the team of 100. i think we fans would be happy if that happened but he needs to work on raising his average in the second half. at least draw some walks and be a team player.”

With all the hype and hoopla over Buxton ( yes, a good player) I pointed out earlier, this has the potential of “rubbing” other team members the wrong way. Not blaming Byron but the front office or Rocco or both. I think they are creating a situation for themselves, especially if the pitching continues to struggle and they start losing ground. Easy to place blame and let it rot from there. I am sure Byron wants to play every day. You don’t get to that level and say, “nah, I don’t want to win, i’ll just phone in an effort” I believe they all want to win, every day. They wouldn’t be there and have put in the time they did otherwise.

Unless your last name is Mauer….. chased

I expect to see Sano activated today. Kepler will most likely go on the DL after being hit in the toe yesterday clearing the way for Sano to get one last look. Honestly it doesn’t hurt anything if one our normal starters is out. But I think he gets a short leesh.

Buxton is Mauer 2.0 as far as how he is handled. The Twins think he’s more valuable playing occasionally, than slightly increasing injury risk playing everyday. It’s dumb but so is the Twins front office for not caring about winning. Players need to play, the best ability is availability etc. Mauer’s contract and baseball value was based on catching, and he rarely did that post contract/concussion/bi-lateral leg weakness. It’s about 8th on my reasons the Twins suck list jester . I know the Silver Spoon Pohlads don’t understand much about baseball, but spoiler alert ballplayers play until their body gives out, whether that’s 30, 100 or 162 games a season. Superstars included, so put em out there as often as possible until that happens.

Sano is up and Celestino is down. Now they all can get about 6 at bats and rotate in, hopefully Buxton can play now or are outfield is not going to be very good defensively.

Buxton also in the lineup which surprised me. Arraez could use a few more days off. He’s played a lot.

Would be nice if Sano caught fire. But I know that is a long shot at best.

Every other day he was tearing it up…..The off days were 0-4 with 4 ks. I suspect he may run into a couple while he’s back up but he won’t hit over the mendoza line.

The fat kid will do what the fat kid does. Tonight he will homer, pop-out & K twice swinging at low and away. I haven’t seen the line-up but if Sanchez hits 8th, Fat Kid 9th & Buxton leads off we have the opportunity for 3 strikeouts in a row multiple times. We also have the opportunity to pop 3 homeruns from those guys. What we don’t have is the chance for all 3 to go 2-4 tonight.

I’m really hoping Buxton has done a little reflecting on what got him talked about as one of the best in the game. Sure he’s got power but when he was at his best at the beginning of the season he couldn’t miss the ball. Now he’s whiff or bomb. Hopefully he’s actively trying to get back to what was working for him.
