I think the plan is to give him days off until the tough part of the schedule arrives. Then play him more. I think what is also contributing is how well Celestino, Larnach, Garlick have been doing. They really don’t lose a lot when Buxton isn’t in the line-up average wise. Of course none of them play defense or hit with power like Buxton does but they don’t often embarrass themselves either.

Nice to see Miranda hitting and driving the ball tonight. Hopefully we’ll start to see that more often as he gets more ABs.

Anyone else hold their breath when Buxton made the tumbling catch??

I can’t believe he is not out for a month after that diving catch! Sonny looked good against an overmatched Detroit club. They are playing good baseball and winning the games they should win. Hopefully that will carry over when we play some tougher teams.

Sonny Gray is still a really good pitcher. He got victimized by Yankee Stadium’s short right field porch and that was really his only bad season.

I agree, I can’t say I feel the same about Archer or Bundy though… Bundy’s velocity is down so far at only age 29.

Bundy took some real beatings and pitched a lot of innings while with Baltimore.

He struck out 6 today… maybe I’ll have to eat my comments on him. I would willingly do that if he does well this year. I’m still in the camp he’s winning through smoke, mirrors and luck so far and eventually the bats will catch up with him.. hope I’m wrong ~

I’m of that same opinion on most of the staff. I don’t see this continuing once they get into a hard or even harder part of the schedule. They have had a very easy schedule up to this point. But it’s still more fun to watch then last years train wreck.

I think Sonny Gray and Ryan can keep it up all year (Gray if he stays healthy). You know what you’re going to get with Archer. 2-3 runs over 3 or 4 wild innings. I have said from the beginning of the season that Bundy was my least favorite addition. He has really never been very good. We’ve gotten some good starts from him so I guess maybe that’s a bonus but I think he will be worse more often than better.

Ober is the key. If he can pitch like he did before his injury he could be a solid #3 for us.

Smeltzer has given the club a couple nice starts now. Unfortnately Duffey has blown it. I can’t believe Rocco always brings him into big spots.

    Well, actually I can…..

i wasn’t going to go there but good thing you did! they need to figure out what to do to flip Duffey and Bundy for something soooooooooooooon. Smeltzer has worn on me but he absolutely deservers a spot in the rotation. Go get it!

You’d think Rocco would have figured out by now with Duffey:

    1. You can only bring him in with runners on and part way through an inning, never at the start of an inning.

    2. Don’t pitch Duffey against the Royals.

I only listen to games on the radio here and there and I’ve figured that much out…….. doah

I’ll be at the game tonight. I’m hoping since Rocco used all the crappy bullpen arms yesterday we’ll see a nice game tonight. Anyone notice Miranda starting to hit? He’s getting accustomed to the bigs.

Going to the Saints game tomorrow to check out Lewis also.

I don’t care about Miranda or Lewis. I want to know how Kirilloff looks to you. grin

I’ll like it when Araez starts batting leadoff! Couldn’t find a better leadoff hitter in the league but that bozo continues to bat Bux at leadoff.

i just hope some day we have a catcher that has a missle launcher for an arm. every team is abusing Jeffers and well Sanchez isn’t much better

We had 3 catchers last year, 1 could hit, 1 could throw, 1 could catch. We kept the wrong one although I do like having Urshela and we wouldn’t have gotten him unless we took Sanchez off the skankies hands.

Bremer got way too excited on that one…..i knew it was going to come up short the minute it left his bat unless the wind got behind it. i wouldn’t say tomorrow is a must win but you can’t lose another game to KC. absolutely unacceptable if they are serious contenders

I still don’t consider them contenders. Just watch. The way Rocco pulls starters the bullpen will implode by the All Star Break and this team will fall off a cliff.

If you look at his bullpens each year he has managed this team, they have been really good for the first few months and then he runs them into the ground and they are unusable after.

When they hit the tough part of the schedule the pitching will show it’s self. They also have to hit better.

And that’s why you don’t put your future stud SS in centerfield. Better hope they didn’t just blow up that knee for the second time.

If so, hopefully both he and Paddock get it covered under an extended warranty program!

Sounds like knee soreness so hopefully not as bad as it looked. Sonny gray also left with pectoral tightness. Would suck to lose him, he’s been a legit #1 when out there.

Dutch, First play of the saints game your boy Kiriloff went face first into the left field wall chasing a home run.

So, they have Larnach, Gordon & Celistino to play outfield and they put Kirolloff a first baseman out there?
