I have been listening to this argument on KFAN all day. The reason he was sent down is so he can play EVERY DAY. Correa is going to play 95% of the games leaving next to nothing for Lewis. It’s incredible how good he looks but he missed 2 full seasons. They don’t want him to play another position because they need him to be a shortstop when Correa ops out next season. Not an outfielder, not a first baseman. He has reclaimed the “shortstop of the future” role and next year will be his year. This year, enjoy Correa.

By the way, he’s crushing the ball today.

they sent Royce down. I wish Miranda would go get some confidence down in the minors and kept Lewis up here. He is an athlete I am sure he can play different positions.

they “claim” royce is going down to play multiple positions to prepare for another call up in the near future roll

they better plan on winning most of their series because the Sox will be on their tail in short time as they get healthy. that usually means putting your best players on the field to give yourself the best chance.

See the shot Jeffers took to the throat area? Thats going to leave a mark. I’m thinking he will be sporting a throat protector next time he starts.

This is another reason I think it’s ok to send him down. Anybody that thinks the Twins will win the division is on Kool aid. Sorry but our pitching isn’t going to last. I’m as big a Twins fan as any but I have no thoughts of them making the playoffs. Let the kid simmer for a bit and next season he will be our SS.

Also, Tommy Watkins is a human windmill in the 3B coaches box. He’s going to get someone killed whether it’s sliding into a catcher who’s had the ball for 5 seconds or getting someone plunked because it’s 10-2 and you’re still waving people in.

Paddock had his TJ surgery today. One of the wonder boys is gone for the year.

so basically traded Rogers for Pagan…..I’m still salty about them trading for this guy. i wonder if our fabulous training staff signed off on the trade knowing he had that platelet injection in his elbow last year? Oh well maybe we get to see Smeltzer and Dobnak some more mad

    can’t wait!

thats the player with a long injury history that had one good season in the majors like 4 years ago that we just traded Rogers and some other pieces for in the offseason correct?

Kirilloff 4-6 with a double and HR, Lewis and Larnach both HR’d as well tonight in St Paul. That’s the kind of news we need to hear.

I highly recommend the “Baseball Doesn’t Exist” channel on YouTube for those who want to binge on some interesting baseball videos! He just came out with one yesterday about the “juiced” baseballs.

I won’t call it smallball. I’ll call it playing baseball as intended. Sacrifice bunts, hitting the other way, playing for one run.

applause Twins and baseball in general are starting to get it. toast

Amazing what playing good defense, getting runners on base and those runners actually running the bases correctly does.

Royce Lewis’ first three games in St Paul:

    Shortstop
    Third Base
    Left Field

I actually kind of like him at third base, and move Urshela to first.

Nice comeback today. Did it without the China Doll so that makes it better yet. Hopefully the Skankies can spank the White Sux tonight.

they lulled me to sleep and i woke up to find they won…..good sweep! now they got Detroit and KC at home next 7. should be able to go 5-2 worst case? they gonna need a cushion once they start playing good teams.
i think i am on board with the strategy for Bux if his knee is swelled up and his hip gives him problems. poor guy has the body of a 40 year old!

Keeping Lewis in the minors longer keeps him with the Twins longer at a lower price. They did this to Buxton too.

A team has the rights to a player until that player earns six full years of MLB service time (there are special rules for players who spend many years in the minors). In other words, as long as your team offers you a contract, you can play only for them until you hit six full years of service.

No one plays baseball harder than Buxton and a play-off run without him might be futile.

Much of is frailty might come from too many walls hit full speed, etc..

Short term is one thing. Long term however if he is not your SS or at least left side of infield he is less valuable.

The only way he isn’t our SS long term is if Correa stays (very unlikely) or if all of a sudden he can’t hit or field the next time he’s brought up.

Agree. If they would stop winning he could be there starting SS everyday starting Aug 3rd. They are messing it all up. lol

Archer might be the most frustrating pitcher to watch. Never really gets hit hard but is so inconsistent in the strike zone he can’t make it past 4 innings.

Nice to see the season Kepler is putting together. I recall many wanting to run him out of town. I understand it’s still early, but I’ve always liked his defense and he plays hard. The only question was would he hit like he did early in his career.

Nice to see a team that fights a little. They shouldn’t have needed to if they didn’t play prevent defense after the grand slam but still a good walk off.

Another opposite field hit (Garlick) and Kepler goes first to third. Nice to see Urshela come through after Sanchez failed. Old china doll has been swinging alot like the fat kid lately. doah

    worlds best .219 hitter rotflol

He’s a career .247 hitter who has played 100 games once in 7 years, yet is somehow getting preferential treatment and rest to “protect him”

…I feel like Buxton could’ve fit well in the old Gophers “Smoke and Mirrors Tour” thread.

My unpopular take is that the more I watch, the more I think he’d be a great sell high candidate if he puts together a healthy season. He’s been unhealthy and regularly unavailable throughout his 20s. What do the “analytics” say about injuries as he turns the corner to 30 years old? With today’s format you need an ace in the MLB playoffs. Until any team has that guy (or 2) to take the ball, it’s hard to consider them anywhere but on the outside looking in. The Twins are my second favorite team behind the Brew Crew and people who know me blast me for it, but I just don’t see Buxton as an untradeable franchise cornerstone. Hopefully he and the Twins will prove me wrong.

I think by now Buxton has made it clear he’s a damn good player when he’s on the field. He is in a slump right now (most likely because he is playing every other game). When he’s been in the lineup before this slump he’s hit like .330 with bomb after bomb and that’s over the past two seasons.

I think the only thing he is rippable for these days is not staying on the field.

Probably better to go 3-4 games on and then two off. Time it with days off and he could sit 3 days a week.
