Scherzer just got traded to the Padres. Berrios is now the best available SP on the trading block and have a feeling things will get moving pretty fast. Multiple teams sending Twins offers but it sounds like they are keeping their asking price VERY high, which I think is a good thing.
Our rotation would be so bad without him and the Twins have a lot of leverage over the other teams that really want Berrios. They might be able to get a nice haul for him.

My thought is if they trade Berrios, should trade Buxton as well and make it an official entire re-build. All the more reason you don’t need Donaldson around, need to get rid of his $20m/year and use towards building a new future. He won’t be here when the squad will potentially be relevant again…
I’m not convinced Buxton is done in MN. I don’t think they find a trade partner for him because of their asking price and he plays here next season and they both come down from what they are asking and get a deal done next year or in the off season.
Also, the prospects they are asking for are AAA prospects that will be MLB ready next year or the next. I don’t think a full rebuild is necessary. Well, just with the pitching.
Looks like the Scherzer/Padres deal didn’t happen and now he AND Trey Turner might be headed to LA.
Turner flat out can play. This isn’t good news for the Giants or Padres.
Rizzo going to the Yankees. Day after getting Gallo.
Atleast we don’t have to worry about losing to them in the playoffs this year!
Without pitching they aren’t going anywhere either. They got a lot of Sano’s on that team.
KC traded Duffy to the Dodgers. That NL West is going to be a battle.

They know they need pitching. What are the odds they end up with a solid pitching trade in the next day and a half?
Matt Shoemaker just dropped a bomb about the Twins coaching techniques when it comes to the pitching and it answers a lot of questions on why ALL our free agent pitchers were terrible this year. He’s also started two games for the Saints and gone 14 innings with one run allowed. Sure it’s AAA but the comments are telling:
“I’m pitching the opposite of how the Twins wanted me to pitch,” Shoemaker said. “And this is not a bashing of the Twins. The Twins wanted to get more out of me in spring training — I understand that — but unfortunately it failed miserable. Because we’re not all robots, we’re individual people.”
“If I blame anybody I blame myself,” he said, “because I’m the one who did it. I could have said no. Analytics can’t quantify someone’s heart in competition. Knowing what makes me feel good mentally and physically on the mound, to the point where, ‘Hey, I’m going to dominate you guys.’ That’s pitching.”
The National talking heads seem to think Berrios gets traded today. I’m still wondering if that makes sense or not.

His value will never be higher. And our rotation will never be emptier if his is moved……I’m 50/50 on it. They have a shot to get a really nice return if they execute.
I think they trade Berrios and then you see Buxton get signed down the road because of not needing to sign Berrios.
Makes sense however I would go get a shortstop before over-paying for the china doll. Does everyone realize the Twins are LAST in MLB in errors committed. Whatever happened to fixing the defense?

All the latest rumors are that the asking price for Berrios has been multiple high level AAA position player prospects. So that might be there plan for the defense.

Buxton got hurt and the analytics on Andrelton Simmons were WAY off…or I mean he’s having an outlier of a season. I think that’s how you’re supposed to term it as the analytics aren’t wrong, they are just defied…regularly.

Hottest rumor is the Padres. Preller has a history of fleecing his trade partners so Falvey better keep one hand on his wallet.
That said the Padres do have some top prospects left. (if you believe the experts)
This cycle is tough to go through every few years (or more often). A few seasons of hope followed by selling.
I get how it works and why; you’re not very good, and if you have a “window” it’s not for a few years so why pay good players a lot of money when you could get younger and cheaper and hopefully, for the future, better.
Still, it seems this franchise is always trading away current, legit, proven assets for future hopefuls that don’t always deliver. I.e. many of you have commented that we need pitching….and they’ll probably end up dealing Berrios…a pitcher.
Again, I get how and why it’s supposed to work. Would just be nice for things to materialize at some point.
Berrios to the Blue Jays. Not sure on what we are getting back yet.
Austin Martin!!!!! SS and the no. 2 prospect in the Jays system and 16th overall in baseballs top 100 prospects
And something called Simeon Woods Richardson. AA pitcher who doesn’t look like much. Austin Martin is the crown jewel here. 5th overall pick in last years draft and is already at AA with a projected MLB date of next year.
Looks like Richardson is their no.4 prospect and a solid SP prospect just starting AA.
So what are they going to do to get the 2-3 top end starting pitchers required to compete in the post season? Berrios was the best pitcher they had developed in over a decade (closer to two decades). May as well get what you can for Buxton at this point and start selling the future again, the Pohlad Way! When one of these Twins threads started, I said it was the definition of insanity to expect the Twins/Pohlads to do what it takes to win, specifically getting top end starting pitching, and I was roasted for it.
The two pitchers they got for Cruz will most likely be in the rotation next year. Then we have to play the horrible free agency starting pitching game, and we all know how the Twins play that.
this trade deadline is the most excited I have been about the team in years! Pineda next and I can only hope Buston for some solid arms. I see the Guardians had enough of that sideshow Rosario after 4 months.

I hear ya man. IF one or two of these guys pans out, they’ll MAYBE be as good as…Berrios…who we traded away. And then still have to build more of a rotation.
Like I said in my post, I get why…but we’ve been in this endless cycle with the Twins for about 25 years.
Happ gone to St Louis for a bucket of used batting practice balls. Thank god.
Martin and Richardson immediately become the Twins number 2 and 3 prospects in the organization.
And the reason I am excited about the prospects we have gotten in these trades are because they are OTHER franchises prospects. Not guys our scouts have picked. Let’s hope the Twins don’t ruin these guys.

read the Shoemaker article………..they will be ruined
I read it this morning.
Twins actually got a solid reliever and another arm for Happ. That’s straight robbery
Wanna be a Nationals fan? World Series Champion in 2019 complete teardown in 2021. Twins aren’t the only team that trys to rebuild on the fly. So far so good, lets see if another shoe drops.
