Good return for Cruz I guess. Think they can get Sano to drive him down there? They are tight ya know.

I read that Strotman had TJ surgery in 2018.
Seems like a pretty good trade, better than I would have thought.
Definitely more than I thought we’d get. The Ryan guy is pitching for us in the Olympics so we’ll be able to see what he looks like first hand.
A little more in depth breakdown of the two pitchers we got for Cruz from Jim Bowden at The Athletic:
Joe Ryan:
“Ryan is the best pitching prospect heading back to Minnesota in the deal. He appears to be major-league ready; he just needs an opportunity. The 25-year-old right-hander has a mid-90s fastball with a deceptive delivery and can be dominating at the top of the strike zone. His changeup is his best secondary pitch. He also throws a slider and curveball that have flashed close to average at times. Ryan should be ready to make his big-league debut by September, and the development of his breaking balls will determine how successful he will be during his career for the Twins.”
Drew Strotman:
“Strotman underwent Tommy John in 2018 and because of it made only nine starts in 2019. But last year he pitched at the Rays’ alternate site and was so impressive they added him to the 40-man roster this past offseason. Because Tampa Bay’s farm system is so loaded, Strotman probably would have been dropped from the 40-man roster this offseason, which made it easier for the Rays to include him in this trade. Strotman’s fastball is mostly 91 to 94 mph, and he throws a cutter and hard slider. He profiles as a back-of-the rotation starter or a set-up reliever.”
Rooker called up likely to take the DH role the rest of the season. They don’t trust him in the field so DH is all he can do.
Why did Rocco and the brain trust play Willians at third and have the gold glover DH?

Reduce the risk of Donaldson injuring himself before the trade deadline.
I have a couple of friends at tonight’s game to watch Ohtani, but he’s sitting out. Haha

I have a candle lit until 7/31 that this is a potential reality

If he is traded you are left with old swing & miss as your power guy.
I’ll take Donaldson any day over the fat kid.
Just read that Rocco has now, after 100 games into the season, made morning practice mandatory. Fielding drills and extra BP to be taken for the rest of the year……
Might have been a good idea to do for the last two years Rocco, as your team is one of the worst fielding teams in the league. His managing style just gets worse and worse with each story that comes out.
Seriously!
Isn’t that what Spring training is for?
BTW – aren’t these players suppose to be pro’s?
Kinda like telling Carpenters “we are going to start having nailing practice”

Does Rocco give participation medals?
I always chuckle when coaches say the new players need to learn to play at the major league level. It’s the same frickin’ game that they’ve been playing since they were a kid.

The reason to get rid of JD is because this team needs to go in full rebuild mode – and you don’t need an aging veteran 3rd baseman with leg issues to limp along and drag the payroll down for another 2.5 years.
The re-build needs to be focused heavily on pitching. The kind that can win a playoff game. We may never afford the top tier FA pitchers, but JD’s $20m can buy a good pitcher, hopefully young enough to be around awhile. The Twins are also going to need to extend Berrios, he’s not top tier but is a known commodity to us. If we had 2-3 Berrios-level pitchers we’d be a lot better off than having one Donaldson around.
He does us no good for the phase we are going into next.
I don’t think the whole team needs a full on rebuild. Just the coaching and pitching staffs and I think the front office feels the same way….on the pitching anyway.

Agreed, start with getting out from underneath the biggest non-pitching salaries. Double-down on rebuilding around quality arms and add the position players around them over time as needed. Yes, extend where you need to with Buxton, Kirilloff, etc. But, if you had a great pitching staff, you could almost surround them with the Luke Hughes and Matt Tolberts of the world and still win.
Somebody call Vanna White, see if the Twins can buy a hit tonight!!! 😬
If La Tor Tuga doesn’t pinch hit for Rooker in the 9th, Baldelli doesn’t care.

Ok ok ok. Thank you Rooker.
The Pohlads have hit an all time new low. Twins offered Buxton $73 million guaranteed and Buxton countered at $80. Twins declined…….my god. Unless they just don’t believe he will stay healthy this is ridiculous.

I think you may have mistead the story. Twins offered 73M. Buttons camp countered with an unknown amount and the twins up’d their offer to 80M. Buttons camp declined that counter
Ok, that makes more sense…..looks like the first report I read had it wrong. They said Buxton countered with 80 million not the Twins offered 80 million after hearing Buxton’s counter.
Tip of that hat to Rooker… At 26, how many people had passed him up on the depth chart and got called up before him. Then he breaks up a no-hitter yesterday and hits a home run into the next zip code today

I don’t care about the money, whats the length of the contract for the money?
3 for $80 is much different then 5 for $80 million.
His track record of injury ? A long term deal would be crazy. He has been good lately but will it last? Trade him. No brainer but just my opinion.

It was for 7 years. So like $10 million a year. No way he’s ever going to take that.

The fact that each time he came back from an injury this year, he didn’t miss a beat at the plate tells me he will keep it going. The only issue is if he’s on the field or not.
And he hasn’t been just good this year he was shattering everything and could’ve easily been the MVP if he kept it up. That’s why it’s tough to trade him.
Well 7 for 80 is a insult. I understand why from the Twins point. They have a low contract number if he gets hurt. Buxton would never sign something like that.
Maybe they get him at 4 for 80 plus incentives for games played or plate appearances but never at 7 for 80.
