    Welcome to the new year!

    1) How will the Twins fair this year? Can they hold off the White Sux?

    2) Do you feel the Twins are a small market team?

    3) Can the Twins afford a $25 million per year player?

    4) I predict Sano will be the first player in MLB history to win MVP, Cy Young, and hit .450 in the same year! yay

I agree with all, they will be fine and hold off the sox, they are a small market, they can afford a free agent (however, they will not budget it in), and if traded out of Minnesota, that could happen for Sano!

I could care less about how they do this year, I just look forward to the day I can sit in the stands, drink an overpriced beer, eat a Krumarczuk and take in a game with no worries…

I don’t know if they’ll win the division but I do think they’ll finally win a playoff game. It’s gotta happen eventually…right?

    Amen.

The Mrs. and I will definitely take in a handful of games, with not a care in the world whether the Twins win or not. I’ve never been so eager to sit in an uncomfortable seat and chat with my wife or a few friends while drinking $10 beers with a game in the background that I occasionally look at.

Some buzz about the Twins inquiring about Colome, the closer from the White Sox. That’d be a nice pickup. They need another impact arm or two in the bullpen. Wouldn’t mind seeing them go after Trevor Story either. I’d love to get Lindor but there’s no way the tribe would trade him to the Twins. We have the trade assets to land someone of that caliber though.

Only on a sign and trade otherwise wait until next year and take the 5th best ss thats available.

Hopefully we will only need a SS for another year or two and then Lewis takes over.

…..So maybe that’s not the best idea. HAHA

Give me the guy who we know can play over the guy we know little about. With Detroit gearing up and Cleveland’s pitching we need to stay relevant. Oh, and then there is the White Sux I guess. smirk

You might have to call them by their real name this season Dutch!

As it stands now I’d say the White sox outta be division favorites. Not sure where their bullpen stands assuming they lose Colome, but that lineup and starting rotation is looking awfully good. A lot can change before April though. As we know, Falvine like to hold off on any splashes until later in the offseason.

Can Pohlad afford a $25 mil/yr player? Of course he can. Does that mean he gives the okay for Falvine and co to pursue one? Probably not. I expect to see more Odorizzi/Maeda-type trades to acquire a dependable rotation, not splurging big in free agency. Both those deals were low risk high upside trades that have panned out very well. Sure playoff wins are the goal, and they haven’t gotten those (yet), but you cant questions those deals to drastically improve the rotation in recent years.

Sox have added some quality arms to their pen already. Nothing crazy good but definitely much more depth than ours.

Looks like the Twins will only have to worry about the Sox this season in the central. Lindor AND Carrasco headed to the Mets for top prospects.

Twins hamstrung themselves signing Donaldson… he is an aging player with a recurrent injury. That’s always been the risk of signing a pitcher for that kind of money, but if given the choice of taking a chance on an expensive player, the risk/reward with a front-end starter is a better route IMO.

Position players will get the team a Divisional/Wild Card spot, but only a true ace on the staff will get the team its first playoff win in 17 attempts.

The Twins may do well next year again in the regular season with what they have but doing well in the playoffs depends on pitching, pitching and pitching. Without shutdown starting pitching, the Twins will never be a good playoff team.
They’ve got to go out and spend some money to get a really good starting rotation instead of settling for project pitchers and bargain basement pitchers. Cheap pitchers are cheap for a reason.

I would love to see them go after Bauer but I don’t have any reason to think he’d want to sign here. He has the fire and attitude of someone I would want on my team. Unfortunately the Twins typically don’t share my liking with players of that type.

Twins will be fine and they will get that play-off win this year. Remember, MLB will keep adding play-off teams until only the Orioles miss the play-offs.

I’ll take a pass on Bauer, I want nothing to do with him or the projected salary. Let him go to the Angels. I would take a look to see if anybody pitching for the Rockies could help or maybe the Reds.

They are projecting Jake Odorizzi at 36 to 42 million for 3 years. Anybody want to buy in at that price for the Twins?

No and I don’t want anything to do with any Rockies pitchers either. Altitude only makes a pitcher bad to a point. The rest is on them and their pitching stinks. No thanks.

Bauer or bust for me. If you’re paying that much for Odo you might as well pay for the top.

IMO, should have saved the money on both Donaldson and Odorizzi and signed Bauer or another stud starter.

Agreed Frydog. I never get too excited after the deal they gave Donaldson last offseason. His nagging soft tissue injuries will continue to be a common theme throughout the rest of his time in MN. Last year was the nightmare scenario for what we saw from him. Team would have been much better off throwing some of that money at a frontline starter. I hope I’m wrong but Bauer sure seems like a pipe dream at this point.

Definitely agree about Bauer being a pipe dream but this team needs the fire he brings. Not to mention he is a stud. I know everything is moving slow this offseason for everybody but the Padres but it’s been painful seeing the inactivity. This club needs to make some moves. At this point I don’t think they can hang with the White Sox.

You add a Bauer it will attract other top players attention also. They sure don’t seem to go after the flashier or big name guys though. If they get Bauer I’m throwing a party.

Interesting read on what Bauer is looking for in his new team. He’s got a little Bryson DeChambeau to him.

    https://www.mlb.com/news/trevor-bauer-rumors

If you don’t follow golf at all, DeChambeau has literally turned the PGA upside down with new training habits, strategies on the course and fundamentals. Bauer seems to be involved in a little of this as well. As much as I hate it, he’s a big analytics guy which may make the Twins more appealing to him. Not sure the Twins would like to use him every fourth day like he stated possibly doing. I think it Rocco had his way he’d have his pitchers pitch ever 17th day.

He also mentioned not caring if it was big market or small. And there was a White Sox mention……Without any real validity but they do have the cash and it makes sense. I think the Twins should push hard for him and see what happens.

    Still a pipe dream though.

He is trying to create interest anywhere he can. I suspect the market for him is smaller then he thinks it should be. I’m out on him, never been much of a fan.

Top FA pitcher out there with great numbers and results. His market is very large. Which will most likely be the reason we don’t get him.

Must be mulling over all the offers he is getting then.

I think the twins approach will be to trade for pitchers that have decent salary and develop their pitching from within.

I hate to disagree but I will.
He had numbers for a 60 game season. Normal seasons he is a above average but by no means a ace type of pitcher. I still think he believes he deserves more money than Cole got from the Yankees which is ridiculous. He is a social media wannabe. Which might be OK for the Twitter crowd but likely scares the old guys who would sign his check. Maybe your Twins can pony up $40 million on a one year deal. That might interest him. smirk

Did you see the rumor that San Diego is in negotiations with Tatis for over $300 million? Another stupid GM trying to get himself fired.
