    Tyler Clippard signing…

Solid relief career… problem is he’ll be 35 and his velocity has dipped from 92 to 89 the last couple years. But hey, that’s still 10 mph faster than Romo and he’s 100 pounds lighter than Bartolo!

See this is where the Twins transition from being “in” but just missing out on the top FA targets to the scrap heap. Sure you may find some quality parts here and there, but no front end top talent to put you over the top like they needed.

Agreed, you have to trade for a starting pitcher that doesn’t have a no-trade clause, and is under contract for hopefully at least 2 years – force’m to be here!!

HA! And we all thought they weren’t going to make a splash, but then they do this and TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES.

I have watched Kluber his entire career. Three of his main out pitches have lost their effectiveness. Note the increase in walks also. His control and the “bite ” of his breaking balls . Has led to his demise as a Number one.

Pitches that opposing natters used to swing at and miss. Are now being banged off the wall or over it.

Wished we were neighbors. As I would be winning a bet. We got a minor league pitcher with a lot of promise and a good fielder .249 hitter outfielder in return.

If Kluber was still as capable as he once was. Even the D.A. Indians would have got more than that. Fireballers who have lost their speed can resurrect their career by becoming great location pitchers. Location pitchers that have lost their control have reached the end of their MLB career.

As I said it doesn’t matter because he would never be a Twin. If he wins 13-15 games or more it’s a Ranger win. If he ends up in the bullpen thats ok also. Texas is making a run for the wildcard and they needed pitching. I would rather be like the Rangers and take a chance then sit on my thumbs thinking Barrios and 4 jock straps will get you anywhere.

It’s why I love baseball, you can speculate all you want looking at snowbanks out your window.

Twins are awful lucky no one in the division has improved their pitching or they’d be in trouble.

They can bring Morrison back to play first if they can’t talk Punto out of retirement to play third.

ESPN, referring to a source, says 3 years/$55 million for Keuchel.

The Twins will be in on a few of the bigger name Free Agents, “barely” lose out and sign a few guys off the scrap heap to make it look like they are trying. If this year didn’t teach you they have no intention of doing what it takes to take the next step, no year will.

And Ryu goes to Toronto for 4 years $80m, bringing to an end top FA season. Onto the scrap heap or sacrificing the farm system in a trade.

So he goes to Toronto and the Twins did not offer more for him? Unbelievable!

An article in the paper last weekend talked about how Falvene came away from the winter meetings without making any moves but they considered it a success because it gave them a “better understanding of the market.”

And that, my friends, is the Twins way. Other teams are signing real players to get better, while the Twins think it’s a victory to get an understanding of the market.

Yeah I saw that too. It’s such typical MN Sports BS. All we need are moral victories. Not real victories.

Ryu has averaged just 105 innings per season since his debut season. Just sayin, he’s no savior. I expect him to get rocked in the AL Beast.

The Twins screwed up by not going harder after Julio Teheran to replace Kyle Gibson. You could make a pretty good argument that he’s better than Gibson, and yet Teheran got a 1/$9M contract with the Angels vs Gibby’s 3/$30M with the Rangers. A good season from Teheran and from the Twins could have led to a Pineda-like moderate-cost 2/$20-25M resigning after the season.

So because he’s missed some time getting the NL ERA champ wouldn’t have helped the Twins…..When our lowest ERA on the staff 3.5 something. At this point ANYONE WOULD HELP. There are no excuses. Injuries, geography, wives, they have exhausted all the excuses.

It’s complete BS and there’s no way around it.

To be fair I don’t think he is worth $20 million but they haven’t done anything to beef up the starting pitching. Unless you count re-signing Odorizzi and Pinada.

None of these pitchers are worth what they are being paid. But that’s what you have to pay if you want to win. Fact.

Im sorry but that is just such a simple-minded take. Twins werent willing to give Ryu a 4th year, like the other half dozen teams in on him. Ryu hasnt thrown over 200 innings once in his career but yet has a very ugly injury history. He’ll turn 33 before they even begin paying him. That contract is going to be so so so painful in years three and four.

I’m not personally high on Keuchel myself, but to get him on a 3 yr $55 mil deal was a pretty nice move by the Sox. The lower tier guy I was real high on was Wade Miley. Think his success continues in Cincinnati. Would have been a great 5th/6th guy in the Twins’ rotation. Alex Wood would be another nice name to fit into that role.

Trading for Minor/Ray/Morton wouldnt break the prospect bank, or anything close to it, and I think the best route the Twins can take without mortgaging the future with Bumgarner, Ryu, or even Donaldson. If you’re willing to forfeit defense but easily afford another infield bat and a top end pitcher, you’d trade for one of the guys I mentioned earlier- or others- and sign Castellanos to play 3rd, 1st, or LF if Rosario is shipped for more pitching depth.

Keep in mind there are still 3 months before opening day and championships are very rarely, if ever, won during the free agency period.

Am I the only one that understand that the Twins don’t have the luxury of cherry picking in free agency??? I don’t care if it’s Ryu, Cole, or freaking Martin Perez. This franchise will have to overpay to get free agents here. They have done it to themselves and its just the way it is.

It’s only simple minded if you’re not a Twins fan. The complete ineptness of this franchise to sign any pitcher to make a REAL push is to blame and is flat out embarrassing. I don’t care about Cole, Wheeler or even Bumgarner for that matter. But it’s pretty embarrassing to lose out to Toronto on a guy that would’ve helped the rotation. Yes he has an injury history. So do most of the pitchers out there. At some point they are going to have to pay for something if they want any respect from their fans.

FWIW I have wanted them to trade for Minor since last season. Rosario and Gordon would get him here I have a feeling.

Ryu on a one year deal would make sense. Not on a four year. Donaldson will never make sense on a four year deal especially if the reported price is over $25 million per.

Nope. I’m tired of the excuses too. This guy has had an injury before, that guy wanted a 4th-year option, this guy likes Michael Bolton, that guy preferred DISH Network over DirecTV, etc.

Falvene/Pohlads and their supporters come up with every excuse in the book. Like you said, they don’t have the luxury of cherry-picking. To me there’s one category: A potential signing either has a chance to make the team better or they don’t. And if they do, let’s do it. Or let the Pohlads sit on the money and keep it, whatever, seems like some fans enjoy that.

A bad deal with Ryu or a bad deal with Donaldson would certainly make the haters forget about the Mauer deal.

Since everybody wants to hand out Christmas contracts lets sign Buxton for $100 million for 4 years and the fat kid for $180 for 6 years.

Just because you can get the money doesn’t mean it needs to be wasted.
