Correct, and if there is no material improvement for 2020 I put the blame more on the Pohlads for not spending. Hard to believe Falvey and Levine would have accepted extensions without some kind of assurance they could finally spend a little and build this team during the talent window they have.

If you want to sit at the big boys table time to hitch up your pants and pull the checkbook out.

I like the idea of Jon Gray, he’s a really interesting player. Somehow he maintained fairly distinct home/away splits from Coor’s Field, but in the opposite direction you’d expect.

    Home: 3.46 ERA, 1.288 WHIP
    Away: 4.22 ERA, 1.420 WHIP

    A 3.46 ERA in Coor’s is fantastic.

I keep hearing rumors that we are in the mix for Donaldson at 100 million. I will lose a gasket if we don’t sign Ryu or Bumgarner for that money and then come back and sign Donaldson. Sure maybe they don’t want to sign here but you still have to use that money on pitching. If you can’t land any impact starters you darn well better go out and get some good relief pitching.

I’m still also kind of pissed they didn’t resign Cron. Yes he was hurt but when he wasn’t he was mashing. Not to mention saving about 3 throwing errors a game for our infield (mostly our SS). Sano at 1b scares the daylights out of me.

They will resign Cron after they can’t sign a 3rd baseman. Donaldson is floated by the talking heads whose job it is to come up with a different rumor every day to keep 30 fan bases interested. Donaldson has a 2% better chance of signing here than Bumgardner, which is zero.

    Bumgarner to D-Backs, 5/$85. Ugh.

Did Bumgarner not want to play in MN that bad? There’s NO excuse the Twins couldn’t beat that offer. That’s less per year than Odorizzi.

I said earlier. he likes hitting. Was never coming here.

He was dead set on Arizona from the beginning is what I read. Also, staying in the NL where he faces pitchers, and gets to hit.

Starting to think we are going to have to hope Graterol or some other prospect becomes an ace.

It sure is looking more and more that to get a pitcher we are going to have to make a trade. We already missed out on Kluber.

Twins reportedly did were not willing to go 5 years and offered 4. I don’t really blame them but at some point you have to realize you are going to have to bite the bullet to get these big names to say YES. Now it’s down to Ryu which I’d be shocked to see sign here. I think he’s going to stay on the west coast. But if the Twins don’t blow every other offer out of the water trying to get him I’m going to be pissed.

Not that it would have made a difference, but seriously?

Won’t do a 5 year contract for a 30 year old pitcher in today’s market for starting pitchers? GTFO of here. Buckle your seatbelt folks, because the reality of that statement is that we will live and die by our ability to draft and develop pitching talent, which is really phenomenal as we’ve proven.

What a joke of an organization.

I’m actually ecstatic that we got Romo back. It’s certainly not everything we need but I think he’s a great presence on the team.

So assuming Ryu doesn’t come here, does anyone know if they’re leaning any particular way on trade targets for a decent SP? I know they struck out with Miami.

Also wondering what people have heard on Donaldson. You’d think he’d want to hit at Dozier’s short porch out there in left and the big guy needs to move to 1B, right? Gonna be a lot of missed scoops running up the RF line next year with Polanco at SS and Sano at 1B…

Well this was the year to invest, next year’s ‘headliner’ free agents aren’t nearly as good.

    Stroman
    Tanaka
    Paxton
    Bauer

All will be as old or older than Bumgarner was, and all are less deserving of a 5 year deal than Bum.

Yep. It’s down to Ryu (who I don’t see leaving the west coast), Keuchel, who I actually don’t hate because he could be the 4th number 3 starter on our staff, or trade which with our prospect depth should be logical. Other than that, this regime has sadly proven Dutch right again…..I think we all knew it was going to happen but had to have a little bit of optimism.

A trade involving Rosario + prospect may be the only viable option left to get a quality starting pitcher…

You guys didn’t miss anything by not getting Kluber. His best days are well behind him. He has got lit up in everyone of his play-off games lately. He was getting drilled last year in seasonal games until he got hurt.

That is why the Indians got essentially nothing in return. All it was , a big salary dump. Rangers are hoping a lot but since they gave squat for him. Good gamble on their part. I predict they release him before 2020 season is over.

They have plenty of prospects that other teams would be willing to deal for. It just might not happen during the offseason. That being said, I’m totally on board with shipping Rosario to sweeten the deal.

If Ryu’s market is +/- $5M to Bum’s, the Twins need to get him. Otherwise we’ll be right back to Nolasco days, pay 70% of the cost of an actual good starter, and get 5% of the value in return.

Ryu’s market is the Dodgers. Once the Dodgers clean up the Lindor thing they will sign Ryu.

If we end up with both Ryu and Sano in this market, I’m going long on Schwann’s stock..

Ya, me thinks you are wrong. grin
He has won 40 more games than he has loss.
    Career 3.16 era
But the stat that matters…………only 1340 innings pitched. Most high level pitchers reached the 3,000 inning mark prior to all the analytics entering the game.

Will he win another Cy Young? Maybe, maybe not. But I would take him as our #1 any day of the week until proven he is done.

But to be clear, there was never a chance Cleveland would have traded him to the Twins anyway so it’s really a moot point.

Just think if we still had BARTOLO!!!!! Heard he’s mounting a comeback in Venezuela! We might need him if we can’t get anyone else to come here. I’d be all in for him!

Kennys Vargas is a free agent. Let’s bring ’em all back and go in together on a latin food restaurant near the stadium. Printing money

    Tyler Clippard signing…

Solid relief career… problem is he’ll be 35 and his velocity has dipped from 92 to 89 the last couple years. But hey, that’s still 10 mph faster than Romo and he’s 100 pounds lighter than Bartolo!
